Transformer Maintenance Success Story

A transformer was tested during commissioning by Prescon and found to have high winding insulation power factor due to moisture ingress from bushing seal leaks. Prescon recommended leak rectification, high vacuum dehydration, and oil filtration, which improved the power factor and prevented transformer failure from moisture inside. A transformer was repaired before its failure during commissioning by Prescon team based on
Transformer Capacitance & Dissipation Factor Test. Below Results were obtained during
Commissioning by Prescon’s team.
High Power Factor of Winding Insulation

Based on above Results and Physical Inspection we found the below observation.
There was leakage from Bushing Seals. Due to leakages, moisture was penetrated inside the
transformer.
We recommend leakage rectification & High vacuum Dehydration & Filtration of Transformer.

Leakage Rectification: Leakage rectification was done and Power factor results were
improved to normal
After Dehydration & Filtration of Transformer.
A premature failure of Transformer was prevented due to moisture ingression inside the
Transformer
Conclusion: A Stitch in time saves nine.
