ACT 1: The beginning

SCENE 1
-school rooftop-

The scene starts with Sky staring out into space from the school rooftop. He walks slowly towards the edge. Gripping the
railings, he hoisted himself up. Scene shows his right foot being lifted up and is placed forward.

[Crash sound during black screen]

-bus stop-

We see Sky seated at the right end of the bus stop bench, his head lowered. From his side profile, we can see a standing
couple is fighting heatedly at the next bench. The man hits the board in anger (same crash sound). Camera focuses back on
his head. He lifts his head, showing his face void of emotions.

[Sky’s monologue voice over starts]

1. Hi, my name is Sky.

Camera zooms out, showing Sky at the seashell wall.

2. A typical guy, in a typical school.

Sky turns to his left and walks out of scene during Monologue 2.

3. With terrible results,

Scene shows Sky looking downwards during Monologue 3. Camera moves downwards to show him holding his results slip,
focusing on the words “RETAINED”.

4. and terrible parents.

Scene shows Sky looking upwards during Monologue 4. Sounds of his parents arguing fades in right after Monologue 4. He
sees his parents at home yelling at each other. The father pushes everything off the table angrily and shouts at the mother.
Sky looks at the “Parents’ Signature” column on his results slip, then at his arguing parents. He walks into his room while
crushing his results slip. Camera shows the crushed paper landing into a full wastepaper basket, with many other crushed
past results slip surrounding it.

5. I always wonder what’s the point in living

Sky is holding a calendar, seating on the edge of his bed during Monologue 5.

6. if everyday is the same living hell to me.

He stares at the calendar for a while, and tears the calendar angrily during Monologue 6.

[Black screen]

7. I’ll never get out of this.

[Sky’s monologue voice over ends]

Scene goes back to bus stop, where Sky is sitting down with his head lowered. A hand reaches over and taps his left
shoulder. Sky turns to the left but sees no one. He turns back to the front to see a girl’s face close up to him.
Azure: Hi! (nervous) I… uhh… umm….

Sky scrunches his brows, looking confused and annoyed at the same time. Azure looks at her camera and holds it fast, as if
she had an idea.

Azure: (speaks fast as if using a single breath) I am a photographer and I saw you sitting there and I thought you’re really
model material and you look really lovely- I MEAN HANDSOME BUT WHAT I MEAN IS WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE MY MODEL

Azure winces, as if expecting a blow. Sky sighs and stands up. He walks past Azure. Azure relaxes from her wincing pose. She
turns around and sees Sky walking away. She hesitates, taking a step forward and froze. She lets out a big breath and
chases after Sky.

We see Sky and Azure’s feet walking in alternating scenes. Sky’s footsteps became faster. Azure steps on a branch. She
winces. Sky turns around.

Sky: Why are you following me?

Azure gives an awkward toothy smile while raising her brows, at the same time holding her camera up for Sky to see.

Sky: (tired) Go home.

Sky turns back and walks away. Azure sees him pushing open a gate and walks into a house. She sighs, putting her camera
down and lets her arms loose at her sides. Her action pushes open the oversized jacket she is wearing, revealing her school
uniform.

SCENE 2

-on the slope up to NYJC main entrance-

We see Sky trudging up the slope from the side view. A hand appears and taps Sky on the left shoulder. Sky turns to the left
to see no one.

Azure: Hello!

Scene shows Azure walking alongside Sky on his right. Sky stops to face her and looks at her in disbelief.

Sky: You again? What, you study here?

Azure: Mhmm. (nods head) Have you thought about it? I still think you’ll look great in my photos (in a singsong way)

Sky rolls his eyes and continues to walk up the slope.

Azure: Eh wait!

Azure reaches in her pocket for a piece of paper. She catches up to Sky and grabs his right hand. She stuffs a piece of paper
into it.

Azure: Just in case you change your mind.

The school bell rings.

Azure: I’ll see you around!

Sky: Tsk.

He stuffs the paper into his pocket. He runs up the slope and into the school compound.

-in classroom-

The bell rings and everyone leaves. Scene shows Sky staring at the piece of paper with Azure’s phone number. He crushes it
and walks to the wastepaper basket. He hesitates whether to throw the piece of paper into the bin. At last he retracts his
arm and keeps the piece of paper into his pocket again.

-in a different classroom-

We see Azure staring at a piece of name card with Dr Shen, Psychiatrist on it. She puts the name card into her pocket and
leaves the classroom.

SCENE 3

-at NYJC concourse-

We see Sky walking at the concourse towards the staff room. Azure runs towards Sky and walks backwards, facing Sky.

Azure: Hello again.

Sky: What do you want? (doesn’t sound as annoyed)

Azure: I gave you my phone number right? Aish, I was expecting a call from you! I mean, c’mon-

Azure stops at the staircase to block his way and makes a rectangle with her fingers. Sky stops walking too.

Azure: Look at those legsss (she positions her rectangle at his legs) And those shoulders… (moving the rectangle up to his
shoulders)

Azure moves the rectangle up to her eyes.

Azure: And that face!

Azure releases the rectangle and places her arms at her sides, giving him a big smile.

Azure: Well, what do you think? Be my model?

Sky looks at her amusedly. He tilts his head and crosses his arms. He raises his brows.

Sky: Yeah right. Keep trying.

Sky grabs her shoulders to move her to one side. He walks down the stairs. Azure froze there for a few seconds. She turns
around to face the staircase. Camera zooms in to her excited face.

Azure: Really?!
SCENE 4

-at the canteen-

Azure appears behind of Sky.

Azure: Please?

-at the library-

Sky takes out a book from the shelf. Azure appears from the side of the shelf.

Azure: Please? (whispering)

-at the running track-

Sky is jogging. Azure runs backwards to face him.

Azure: Please? (breathless)

Sky gives her a distasteful look and runs faster.

Azure: Eh eh wait! WOAH-

Sky turns around to look at her. He looks at the scratch on her right knee and goes towards her.

Sky: Are you okay?

Azure: No I’m not. Because you still don’t want to be my model.

Azure stands up and brushes off dirt. Her phone rang.

Sky: Okay fine but your knee-

Azure doesn’t hear Sky as she picks up her call. She cuts Sky’s words halfway as she speaks into her phone.

Azure: Hello Miss June. At the art room? Now? Oh okay sure.

Azure waves good bye to Sky as she walks away.

-at the art room-

We see Sky holding some plasters and heading towards the art room. He hears Azure raising her voice as he comes closer.
He stops outside the art room, hidden by a corner.

Azure: -is not my fault why I can’t participate in photography competitions!

Miss June: I know, Azure. It was a sad tragedy, but you’re still our best photographer. We need you.

Azure: I… I… can’t do this. Not when I have to be the sole representative of our school. It’s too much of a burden to me.

Miss June: Azure, could you at least-

Azure runs out of the art room. Sky sees this and hides into the shadows. He leans his head on the wall, looks up and sighs.
ACT 2: Development

SCENE 5

We hear the sound of phone ringing. Scene shows Azure picking up the call.

Azure: Hello?

Sky: You still need that model right?

Azure’s eyes widen in surprise. She beams.

Azure: YES OMG! YESYESYES I’LL SEE YOU ON THE 13TH!

Sky and Azure chats for a while. Azure ends call and does a fist pump. We see Sky putting his phone down and looking at the
torn calendar on his desk in his room. There is a tear through the 13th of January. We see him taking his tape out and
mending the calendar. He uses a marker pen to cross out the date 13th January and smiles to himself.

SCENE 6

-at Tanjong beach site 1-

Azure meets Sky. We see Azure motioning Sky to move more to the left. Both still rather awkward. We see another cross on
the 19th of January.

-at Tanjong beach site 2-

We see Azure adjusting Sky’s limbs into a pose. They smile at each other. We see a cross on the 20 th of January.

-at Tanjong beach site 3-

Sky runs towards Azure and looks at the camera beside her.

Sky: Why are all the photos black and white?

Azure: You don’t look good in colours anyway.

Azure pokes her tongue out at him and Sky rolls his eyes at her. We see a cross on the 21st of January. Then by stop motion,
we see more crosses appear on the calendar, all the way up to February 10th.

-at Tanjong beach site 4-

We see Azure and Sky’s walking silhouette in the dusk sky. Camera zooms in to them sitting down on a rock.

Sky: -and that’s how my friend’s dog got sick.

Azure: (laughs) I’m surprised that it’s still alive until now.

Both of them looks out to the sea. Sky elbows Azure.

Sky: Why don’t you participate in any photography competitions? I’ve never seen your name anywhere, even in our school
galleries.

Azure looks downwards, hesitating.

Azure: Meh, competitions aren’t my thing. Besides, I’m not that good. (chuckles)

Azure looks upwards and out to the sea. Sky looks at her, as if wanting to say something, but didn’t in the end. He looks
upwards to the sea. Scene fades out with a backward shot of them sitting together.

SCENE 7

-at NYJC library-

We see Azure looking at the name card, then at Sky, who is sleeping beside her while wearing earphones. The bell rings and
Sky stirs. Azure quickly keeps the name card.

Azure: Uh… I’ll go use the washroom. Help me keep my stuff.

Azure pushes her stuff towards Sky and leaves her seat. As Azure passes by the library counter, the librarian calls out to her.

Librarian: Eh girl! Help me take the blue book from the stack of books there.

Librarian points at the stack of books two tables away from Sky. Camera focuses on the stack of books. Azure froze. She
shuffles forward towards the table. Sky sees this and stands up immediately. He grabs both bags, slings it over his shoulder,
strides over to the table and snatches the blue book from the pile. Azure looks at him in a daze as Sky passes by her.

Sky: Slowpoke.

Sky hits her head gently with the book. Azure ducks her head a little and pouts. Azure grabs her bag from Sky and Sky
passes the blue book to the librarian. They bicker as they walk out of the library. Camera fades out.

SCENE 8

-school rooftop-

We see Azure spreading out her arms while twirling around, ahead of Sky as he walks slowly behind her, smiling. Azure
holds up the camera hanging on her neck and aims it at Sky.

Azure: (cheekily) Hah, caught you smiling.

Sky pushes down her camera as he passes by her, rolling his eyes but still smiling. Azure stops to check her photo as Sky
walks to the railing, the exact same spot where he tried to commit suicide. Azure turns around to see him in a daze. Camera
focuses on Sky as we see his feet moving closer to the railing.

Azure: Sky!

Sky wakes up from his daze. We see him letting his grip go from the railing, and he turns around to see Azure aiming the
camera at him. She puts down her camera and smiles at him. Sky gives a small chuckle.
We see both of them seated side by side, looking out to the sky. Sky goes into daydream mode. Azure secretly reaches to
her pocket and looks at the name card, and bites her lips. She takes a deep breath.

Azure: Hey Sky.

Sky: Mhmm? (without averting gaze from the sky)

Azure: Wanna go out tomorrow? It’s a Saturday.

Sky: Mhh- Huh? What?

Azure: Like, not a photoshoot. Just going out.

Sky blinks at her, looking slightly surprised.

[voice over starts]

Sky: OMG, is she actually asking me out?

[voice over ends]

Sky: Uh, sure. I mean, yeah. That’ll be cool.

Scene ends with both of them looking at each other and smiling.

ACT 3: Conflict

SCENE 9

-alternating scenes between Azure’s and Sky’s homes-

We see Sky being excited for the date. He tries on different styled shirts. Alternate to Azure’s home, we see her looking
rather anxious as she takes in a deep breath while combing her hair. We see a split screen where both of them throwing
their shoes outside and wearing them. We see their shoes walking, then stop. Camera moves up from their shoes to them
facing each other, smiling. Sky waves at Azure, rather awkwardly. Azure beams at him.

-at a café-

We see them eating together from a window.

-at a accessories shop-

We see them trying out hats and smiling at each other.

-at a toy shop-

We see them hitting each other with soft toys.

-along shops-

We see them window shopping.

We see both of them entering the café. Azure grabs Sky’s arm.

Azure: I want you to meet someone.

Sky looks taken aback.

Azure: But before that, promise me something.

Sky nods.

Azure: Promise me you’ll meet the person okay?

Sky looks confused, but he nods anyway. Azure takes a deep breath and leads the way as Sky follows. She sees a man sitting
at a corner and goes over.

Azure: Hello, you must be Doctor Shen.

Doctor Shen: Hello Azure (he shakes hands with Azure). I assume you’re Sky. (he nods to Sky) Please take a seat.

Doctor Shen motions for both of them to sit. After they take their seats, Doctor Shen takes out his name card and presents it
to them. Camera zooms in and focuses on the word “Psychiatrist”. Sky looks taken aback. He turns to look at Azure with an
accusing look. Azure looks downwards at her hands.

Doctor Shen: Now I know what you’re thinking, Sky. I’m just-

Sky stands up abruptly and walks away fast, interrupting Doctor Shen’s words. Azure stands up and looks at Doctor Shen
apologetically.

Azure: I’m sorry.

Doctor Shen: Don’t be.

Doctor Shen motions Azure to go after Sky. Azure runs out of the cafe. She looks around and saw Sky walking away. She
catches up and grabs his wrist. Sky turns around angrily.

Sky: You knew all along, didn’t you?!

Azure: I was just trying to help!

Sky: You can’t understand me! (raises voice)

Azure: I’ve been there, Sky. I understand!

Sky: You don’t, okay?! I don’t need your pity!

Azure: I’m not pitying you! I just want you to be okay! I just thought-

Sky: You thought that I’m sick right? That this whole time you were treating me like your patient?!

Azure: No, Sky, I wasn’t-

Sky: You lied to me this whole time! What modelling. (he scoffs) You thought it was funny right?!

Azure: Sky, listen. I-

Azure looks at Sky in disbelief. She never thought Sky would use her most sensitive point against her.

Sky: What gives you the right to try to solve my problems?

Azure feels hurt and angry at the same time. She starts to tear.

Azure: I thought we were friends!

Sky: Yeah. You thought.

Azure: (scoffs) Yeah, maybe you’re right.

Azure takes a few steps back, then turns around and runs away. Sky looks to the side, feeling frustrated as he gives out a
sigh. He runs his hand through his hair and turns around to walk away, out of the scene.

ACT 4: Resolving

SCENE 10

-at fifth floor in NYJC-

We see Azure walking with a group of friends. She sees Sky walking towards her from a distance. She pauses. Sky averts his
eyes to the floor as he walks towards her.

Friend 1: What you waiting for? (nudges Azure)

Friend 2: Let’s go. (shoves Azure lightly to motion her to move forward)

Azure sighs a bit and walks forward. We see Sky stopping and turning around to look at Azure as he passes by her from a
distance, without her knowing.

[split screen]

We see Azure looking at the old photos that she took with Sky. Sky looks at the calendar he crossed out. Both sighs and the
scene fades out.

SCENE 11

-NYJC art room-

We see Sky walking towards the art room. He stops as he hears someone talking inside.

Friend 1: -keeps turning Miss June down even when Miss June was literally begging her to participate in that competition.

Friend 2: I know right! What’s so difficult about participating anyway?

Friend 1: She thinks she’s so great. I think Aston is a better photographer than she is. Aston is…
Sky turns away from the conversation. As he passes by the front door of the art room, he sees Azure leaning her back
against the front door. Azure catches his eyes. She runs off. Sky sighs.

-at school rooftop-

We see Sky walking towards Azure at the school rooftop. He sits beside Azure. After a moment of staring into space, he
nudges Azure.

Sky: Look at the sky.

Azure turns to look at him blankly. Sky chuckles.

Sky: Not this Sky. This.

Sky points at the sunset. Azure turns to look.

Sky: Don’t you think the Sky is beautiful… even without colours?

Azure looks downwards.

Sky: You see the world differently. That doesn’t make you any less than the rest of us. The only way to prove that is to
participate in that competition.

Azure: But… I’m scared. What if I lose? The only way I can differentiate colours are by their tones. That will never make a
good photo.

Sky: You know, Azure. You have a very special eye. You always see the bright side in everything, including me. Your photos
are unique because of the story it can tell to others. Have a little faith in yourself.

Sky lets out a breath.

Sky: Fine, let’s do this. I’ll meet Doctor Shen if you participate for that competition. Deal?

Sky puts out a hand to Azure. She slowly reaches across and takes it. Scene fades out with both of them looking at each
other and smiling.

ACT 5: The Ending

SCENE 12

-at a café-

We see Sky talking to Doctor Shen. He nods attentively as Doctor Shen talks.

-at a place with wall murals-

We see Sky in a photo through a camera lens. Then, we see Azure lowering her camera to smile at Sky. Sky runs over to her
and looks at the camera screen together with her. He points at the background in the photo.

Sky: That part of the wall background is turquoise, I feel that we should move to a place with lighter background because
I’m wearing denim today.

Azure nods and both of them walks away to exit scene.

[Sky]

Sky’s calendar starts to appear more crosses with different colours to show his therapy appointments. We see him talking to
Doctor Shen.

[Azure]

We see Azure talking to Friend 1 and Friend 2. Both friends lower their heads. Azure grabs both their hands and smiles at
them. The two friends smile back.

[Azure and Sky]

We see Azure trying to make Sky wear a flower garland. Sky frowns and takes it off, only to put it on Azure’s head.

[Sky]

We see Sky walking over to the sink to help his mother wash dishes. His mother looks at him and smiles.

[Azure]

We see her editing photos on her laptop.

[Sky]

We see Sky talking to parents as they sit down for dinner together. The parents look at each other and nods.

[Azure and Sky]

We see both of them looking at the camera Azure is holding.

-at NYJC gallery-

We see Azure and Sky standing in front of a photo frame hung on the wall. They look at each other and smile. Scene fades
out.

SCENE 14

-at bus stop-

We see Azure and Sky sitting together on one bench.

[Sky’s monologue voice over]

Sometimes we don’t have to see how everyone else see the world.

<flashback to scene where Azure first saw Sky. She is taking photos and accidentally caught Sky in her frame as she is trying
to take a photo of the dusk sky.>

We might see something different if we use our hearts to look around instead.

<We see Sky talking to Miss June, asking her to convince Azure to participate in the photography competition. He is holding
a pamphlet about the competition.>
That’s how I first saw the colour Azure in my life.
