These regulations must be read in conjunction with the Academic Regulations (Taught
Courses). These regulations are available by going online to the Open University ‘Essential
Documents’ website at [Link]/essential-documents.

Maximum duration of study


16 years (7 year limit for BCS accreditation)

Credit requirement
360

Stage 1 (120 credits)


90 credits from the specified compulsory modules and 30 credits from the specified core
option modules

Stage 2 (120 credits)


60 credits from specified compulsory modules and depending on the route being followed, 60
further credits from compulsory modules or from a group of specified core option modules

Stage 3 (120 credits)


30 credits from the specified compulsory project modules and depending on the route being
followed, 90 credits from a group of specified core option modules or 60 credits from
compulsory modules and 30 credits from a group of specified core option modules.

Maximum transferred credit


180 credits, of which no more than 60 credits can be at OU Stage 2

Maximum age of credit transfer


16 years

Additional rules
From 1st August 2018 the BSc (Honours) Computing & IT may also be awarded with a
named specialism if you have 360 credits from approved modules including 120 credits at
OU Stage 2 and 60 credits at OU Stage 3 that are approved for a particular specialism.
Where the modules that make up specialisms are included, the degree may be referred to as
the BSc (Honours) Computing and IT (Software), the BSc (Honours) Computing and IT
(Communications and Networking) or the BSc (Honours) Computing and IT
(Communications and Software).
