INTRODUCTION
Hazard was divided by six major types. There are physical hazard, mechanical hazard,
chemical hazard, ergonomic hazard, psychosocial hazard, and biological hazard. For this
practical 2 Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) and Rapid Office Strain Assessment
(ROSA), student need to conducted in order to determine the ergonomic hazard in UniKL
MICET. Ergonomic hazard is referring to workplace conditions that can be risk of injury to the
musculoskeletal system of the workers or students.
The place that has been chosen is SDCL office for Group One and Chemical Laboratory
(Lab 2A) for Group Two. There are 10 person has been selected to observe related to
ergonomic hazard. The practical is handling based on the guideline of ergonomic risk
assessment which is ROSA and RULA.
Rapid Office Strain Assessment (ROSA) a picture based posture checklist designed to
quantify exposure to risk factors in an office work environment. It is modelled after other picture
based on checklists and scoring chart system such as RULA an REBA. To serve as a screening
tool to identify areas of priority in large office based organization is of the ROSA. Scorers of
greater than 5 are deemed to be high risk and the workstation should be assessing further. A
correlation between discomfort levels and increasing score had been shown. There are three
section uses in the ROSA. Firstly, section A which is chair that consist of chair height and pan
depth. The assessors need to select the position of the seat height and chair pan. Arm rest,
back support, and duration of sitting are including in section A. Next, section B which is
telephone and monitor. Last but not least is keyboard and mouse.
Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) was developed by McAtamney & Corlett in 1993
to evaluate the exposure of individual employee to ergonomic risk factor associated with upper
extremity musculoskeletal disorder. RULA is easy to use because it no advanced degree in
ergonomic or expensive equipment. This RULA use to analyse arm, wrists, neck, trunk and leg.
For the score, 1-2 is the negligible risk which is no action required and 7 is the very high risk
and need to investigate and implement change immediately. Enhance, this type of risk
assessment can be conducted quickly with multiple position and task within the work cycle. It
also usually can be evaluated without a significant times and effort.
