BASIC CONSIDERATION IMPLEMENTATION PLANNING
FOR INDOOR SITES RF SOLUTION
1. Feeder Consideration
• It is recommended to try to use 1/2" and 7/8" RF feeder cables where possible.
• The using of 1-1/4" RF feeder is effective while the feeder line length more than 100m.
• The following consideration should be taken into account while choose the feeder type:
If the feeder length less than 10m ( < 10m), 1/2" RF Feeder is the best solution, because it's easier
and faster to install also doesn't require jumper cables at both the end of cable. If 7/8" RF feeder
cable is used, it's means we must to provide 2 jumper cables at both the end of cable. From Loss
consideration, it is not different :
10m 1/2" feeder , Loss = 0.1 X 10.66 = 1.06 dB
10m 7/8" feeder + 2 jumpers = (0.1X5.88) + (2X0.2) = 0.99 dB
Connection indoor omnidirectional antenna to RF feeder cable need jumpercable (1.0mRFF 1/2"),
except the incoming feder is Feeder 1/2”.
Connection indoor directional panel antenna to 7/8" or 1-1/4" RF feeder cable, in case where the RF
feeder can be run untill less than 1m close to the antenna, doesn't need jumper. If the 7/8" or 1-1/4"
Rf feeder can't be run untill less than 1m, then we have to provide jumper accordingly.

2. Splitter and Coupler Consideration
If the distance between the respective splitters or couplers less than 5m, where as possible it's
recommended to CO-LOCATED them with N-male to N-male adapter or and with 300mm RFF3/8”
jumper cable. This purpose is to make easier and faster for installation, feeder commissioning
(testing) and maintenance.
1.2 Practical Example of using antenna line components
Here is some example how to use antenna line component in indoor RF solution:
1.2.1 200 mm RG214/U superflexible jumper cable with two (2) N-male connectors
Connections between two (2) passive elements
E.g. Coupler thru port (N-female) is connected to splitter IN-port (N-female) inside riser where is no
"room" to use adaptors.
1.2.2 1.0 m RFF 1/2"-50 superflexible jumper cable with N-male and female connectors
Connections between 7/8" or 1-1/4" feeder cable and antenna
E.g 7/8" feeder (N-male) is connected to omnidirectional antenna (N-female) in car parking area
where all omni antennas are installed by using support rods
20 © NOKIA 1999 All_DASComponents/ 29.62001 /Juha Konu/Product Manger
2. Splitter and Coupler Consideration(Continue)
1.2.3 N-male to male adaptor
Connections between two passive elements or between passive elements and directional panel
antenna
E.g. Splitter OUT-port (N-female) is connected to directional panel antenna (N-female with 1m
tail). Splitter is installed inside false ceiling and panel antenna below false ceiling.
1.2.4 2m RFF 1/2" superflexible jumper with 7/16-male and N-female connectors
Connection between BTS with 7/8" or 1-1/4" feeder
Note : In case the BTS will be connected to passive component (splitter or coupler with N-female)
and the jumper length more than 2m, subcontractor must provide the jumper RFF 1/2"
superflexible with 7/16-male and N-male connectors, if the jumper length less than 2m, adapter N-
male to N-male will be used.
1.2.5 N-male to female right angle adaptor
Connections between passive elements and feeder cables
E.g. Splitter OUT-port (N-female) is connected to "back bone" feeder cable (N-male) directly by
using angular adaptor.
1.2.6 7/16-male to N-female adaptor
Basically spare adaptor.
E.g. Jumper cable (with N-connectors) connections to BTS (7/16 female) or combiner (SiSo
combiner is equipped with 7/16 female connectors).
1.2.7 50 ohm power terminator
Termination of 50-ohm cable antenna (radiating feeder cable) line, if there is no antenna installed
in the end of line.
