CONTRACT FOR LEGAL SERVICES
This CONTRACT FOR LEGAL SERVICES is entered this March 30, 2018 between
ALLEN A. ELEVADO, currently residing at Ungka II, Pavia, Iloilo, herein referred to as
“Client”, and ABUNDIO A. BACATAN, Attorney-at-Law, Bacatan Law Office,
Dumangas, Iloilo, herein referred to as “Counsel”.
CONDITIONS. This Contract will not take effect, and the Counsel will have no
obligation to provide legal services, until Client returns a signed copy of this Contract
and pays the deposit called for under paragraph titled “Legal Fees”.
SCOPE AND DUTIES. Client hires Counsel to provide legal services as follow:
consultations, advice, and the giving of opinion on all fields of law affecting your case,
preparation of initiatory and subsequent pleadings, notarization of documents related to
the case, and appearance before the court.
LEGAL FEES. Client agrees to pay Fifty Thousand Pesos (Php 50,000.00) to Counsel
as Attorney’s Fee and Two Thousand Pesos (Php 2,000.00) as appearance fee per
hearing.
COSTS AND EXPENSES. In addition to paying legal fees, Client shall reimburse
Counsel for all costs and expenses incurred by Counsel, including, but not limited to,
process servers’ fees, fees fixed by law or assessed by courts or other agencies, court
reporters’ fees, long distance telephone calls, messenger and other delivery fees,
postage, in-office photocopying, parking, mileage, investigation expenses, consultants’
fees, expert witness fees and other similar items. Client authorizes Counsel to incur all
reasonable costs and to hire any investigators, consultants or expert witnesses
reasonably necessary in Counsel’s judgment, unless one or both of the clauses below
are initialed by Client and Counsel.
DISCHARGE AND WITHDRAWAL. Client may discharge Counsel at any
time. Counsel may withdraw with Client’s consent or for good cause. Good cause
includes Client’s breach of this Contract, Client’s refusal to cooperate with Counsel or to
follow Counsel’s advice on a material matter or any other fact or circumstance that
would render Counsel’s continuing representation unlawful or unethical.
CONCLUSION OF SERVICES. When Counsel’s services conclude, all unpaid charges
shall become immediately due and payable. After Counsel’s services conclude,
Counsel will, upon Client’s request, deliver Client’s file to Client, along with any Client
funds or property in Counsel’s possession.
DISCLAIMER OF GUARANTEE. Nothing in this Contract and nothing in Counsel’s
statements to Client will be construed as a promise or guarantee about the outcome of
Client’s matter. Counsel makes no such promises or guarantees. Counsel’s comments
about the outcome of Client’s matter are expressions of opinion only.
