Grashof Four-Bar Mechanism Design

1) The document describes an assignment to design a Grashof four-bar, crank-rocker mechanism that meets specific requirements. 2) The mechanism must have a time ratio of 1.35, an output rocker angle of 50 degrees, and maintain a transmission angle between 40 and 140 degrees within a 7.5 x 10 inch design space. 3) Students are asked to submit a drawing of the linkage at one position and specifications including the minimum and maximum transmission angle.

Assignment # 3

Problem 1:

Design a Grashof four-bar, crank-rocker, quick-return mechanism with the

following requirements:

The mechanism must have:

1) a time ratio of 1.35.
2) an output rocker angle of 50°.
while maintaining a transmission angle between 40° and 140°, and,
3) must fit and operate within a design space of 7.5 x 10 inches.
(Use a letter size printing/construction paper create a half inch border all around as
showed)

Tasks:

1) Follow the steps as in the lecture 05 handout.

2) Submit a drawing of your linkage at one of the extreme positions.
3) Submit you linkage specifications as showed in step 12.
4) Include in your specification the actual minimum and maximum transmission angle of
your designed linkage.

Note: Please recognize that your text calls the transmission angle Φ.
μ is the label used by the majority of books on mechanisms.
