Catalog Description:
This class focuses on the causes and consequences of individual and group behaviors
in business, organizational communication, interpersonal relations, conflict resolution,
and appreciation of diversity and personal differences.

Required Textbook:
Steven McShane and Mary Ann Von Glinow, Organizational Behavior, 4th ed. (2008),
McGraw-Hill. ISBN: 978-0-07-110104-2

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to
 Constructively adjust the effect of their own behavior on other people.
 Demonstrate case analysis and reporting skills.
 Communicate and cooperate effectively.
 Apply concepts related to individuals, groups; organizations, and interpersonal
processes to real administrative problems commonly encountered in most
organizations.
 Use empowerment strategies to inform and engage others in organizational
transformation.
 Demonstrate understanding of the causes and consequences of individual, group,
and organizational behavior on organizations.
 Demonstrate exposure to the latest trends and theories affecting management
practice.
Course Expectations and Policies:

 Course Expectations: Each student is expected to read the assigned material


and prepare the written assignments prior to class.

 Attendance Policy: It is expected that students will attend class regularly and
participate in the class discussion throughout the term. Students’ early leaving
will be excused with an in-advance approval. During the class, mobile phones
should be turned off.

 Academic Integrity: Plagiarizing other student’s assignment, plagiarizing from


online, or submitting another course’s assignment (individual or team) will be
considered as cheating or plagiarizing unless the instructor’s approval is given in
advance.

 Due Dates/Make Up Work: Examinations must be taken as schedules;


Assignments are due when scheduled. Make-ups will be allowed only if the
student has contacted the professor and has been approved by the professor
before the due date, detailing a serious problem.

 Grading: Total 500 pts


100 pts. Mid-term Exam A+ = 95-100% (475-500 pts.)
100 pts. Final Exam A0 = 90-94% (450-474 pts.)
100 pts. Group Project B+ = 85-89% (425-449 pts.)
100 pts. Reading Assignments B0 = 80-84% (400-424 pts.)
100 pts. Class Participation C+ = 70-79% (350-399 pts.)
C0 = 60-69% (300-349 pts.)
F = below 60% (below 300 pts.)

 Class Participation: Students should attend and participate in class discussion.


Attendance can be checked any time for class participation points.

 Reading Assignments: Students should read the assigned chapter(s) before


coming to classes. Students are required to submit 10 written reading
assignments throughout the course. For a reading assignment, they should
answer case questions for the given case study at the end of each chapter. The
written assignment should be submitted at the beginning of the corresponding
class in a 2-3 page paper (typed). No late submission is accepted for reading
assignments.

 Team Project: Each student will participate in a team project of an in-depth


case analysis. Teams will consist of four people. The project is to analyze the
given case to the team (A case list will be distributed in the class). As a result, a
10-15 paged, double spaced, typed paper must be turned on the date of
presentation with a 30-minute presentation utilizing audio-visual aids. Team
project score will be given as the combination of instructor’s grading and team
peer evaluation. Detailed guideline for the team project can be found in “How
to Write a Case-Based Essay”(2451BC).
