VARIATION OF AIR-FUEL RATIO WITH INCREASING COMPLEXITY OF ALKANES:
To see the variation of air-fuel ratio with the increasing complexity of Alkanes, increase in
number of carbon atoms of alkanes, we plot a graph of air-fuel ratio against the number of
carbon atoms ‘n’ as shown in figure 1.

The graph shows that as the complexity of alkanes increases the stochiometric air-fuel ratio, required to completely
burn the Alkane, decreases exponentially.
