Job Description
A Project Engineer is responsible to the Project Manager for all aspects of engineering
work on a project. The Project Engineer’s scope could be the entire project or a physical or
process area within the project.
Responsibilities:
To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the
following:
Defines and manages engineering resources, both from a technical and functional
standpoint.
Develops scope definition for engineering services, establishes project design
criteria, and approves technical documentation.
Plans and controls engineering work, including the determination of priorities.
Assures compliance with the project schedule, control estimates, quality
procedures and health & safety requirements.
Coordinates the work of the various engineering disciplines.
Maintains good client relationships.
Analyzes problems, organizes investigations, makes decisions and
recommendations on technical issues utilizing the engineering discipline leads, and
implements conclusions.
Fosters a spirit of enthusiasm, client focus and team building among the project’s
engineering staff.
Provides input to salary recommendations and performance evaluations.
Some business development responsibilities.
Desired Skills & Experience
Qualifications:
Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
8 years of technical and managerial experience in a relevant field, such as mining
& metallurgy, power generation, petrochemical and other heavy engineering
applications.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
A deep and thorough understanding of at least one engineering discipline in the
mining & metallurgical sector, gained through a combination of design-office and
site experience.
A general knowledge of all pertinent engineering disciplines and a thorough
understanding of the interaction between disciplines.
Proficiency in the control and planning of work.
A general understanding of applicable regulatory requirements and industry
practices.
Adequate knowledge of the company’s established guidelines, procedures and
practices.
Ability to present reports on facts, and proposals for initiatives, to Project Managers,
clients and engineering personnel.
