Casing Depth Optimization for Multilateral Wells

This document analyzes casing design for two well trajectories: a dual-lateral well and a multilateral fishbone well. It determines optimum casing depths by analyzing pore pressure and fracture pressure curves. For each casing string, it calculates collapse pressure, burst pressure, and tensional load to select an appropriately rated casing. Casing seats are set above the maximum depths allowed by these pressure and load calculations.

4.8.1 Set the casing depth

In this study to set the casing depth to different well trajectory selected, the first multilateral
well analyzed is dual-lateral trajectory and the second is multilateral fishbone trajectory,
would be use the criteria according to the mud weight. This criteria of the mud weight is
based in function of two main parameters such as: Fracturing pressure and Pore pressure, the
closely relations between these two parameter can avoid establish the casing depth
considering the minimize the number of casing string sections.

After determined the curve profile of these; generally the procedure to determine the optimum
casing setting depth always is established from bottom to upward the well top.

In the next section we would present the analyze to Multilateral well dual lateral trajectory:

Firstly, we are going to use the pore and fracture profile curve to set the optimum casing depth
for the multilateral dual-lateral wellbore, the next curve is the pore, fracture pressure profile .
