Just beside calamba city’s main church, the St. John the Baptist Church *see in the
background* , is the birthplace of Jose Rizal, the ancestral house of Rizal also known as
The Rizal Shrine. In the backyard there was a sculpture of Little pepe and his dog
According to the sculpture’s inscriptions, the name of young Rizal’s dog is berganza or
“Verguenza,” is a Spanish word, which means “Shame,” thus the Spanish swear-word
“Sin verguenza.” It means shameless… in Pilipino, “Walang hiya!” (pardon I blocked
the dog of Rizal and for the foul word)
