This research is intended to understand the journey of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in
Borongan City towards financial inclusion as measured in four dimensions, namely,
access, usage, quality and welfare. This research will be conducted following a survey
design from August to December 2017 with household- or client-respondents who have
availed or accessed financial products or services from the four microfinance institutions
located at Borongan City at the time of the study namely; ASA, TAYTAY, SAMECO,
CARD. Client survey will make use of developed questionnaire and these client-
respondents will be purposively sampled from the Barangays of Balud, Baybay 1, Bato,
Bugas and Tabunan, all situated in Borongan City.(MFIs)
As mentioned earlier, Access, Usage, Quality, and Welfare are the dimensions of financial
inclusions that this research will document as part of the journey of the MFIs. Access and
Usage rely primarily on the MFIs, while Quality and Welfare can be determined from the
clients of the MFIs. If the MFIs will not fully cooperate, e.g,. that they might think that they
would not benefit from the study nor will they have the time to participate with our
research, then this study will focus on the last two dimensions of financial inclusions: the
Quality and Welfare as obtained from their clients.
With limitations present, this research would only give equitable assertions of its final
output.
