Instrumentation and Measurement Systems
Assignment 2
Due Monday 13th Oct before 12:30 sharp
1. Download the datasheet for a measuring instrument (any instrument with an electrical
output) and highlight all the dynamic characteristics of the instrument mentioned in the
datasheet. Submit the datasheet and a brief report of the characteristics mentioned in it.
2. A balloon is equipped with temperature and altitude measuring instruments and has radio
equipment that can transmit the output readings of these instruments back to ground. The
balloon is initially anchored to the ground with the instrument output readings in steady
state. The altitude-measuring instrument is approximately zero order and the temperature
transducer first order with a time constant of 15 seconds. The temperature on the ground,
T0, is 10C and the temperature Tx at an altitude of x metres is given by the relation:
Tx = T0 - 0.01x
If the balloon is released at time zero, and thereafter rises upwards at a velocity of 5
metres/second, what temperature does the balloon report at an altitude of 7000 metres?
3. Attempt example on week 3 slide no 34
4. Following output were recorded for an instrument find mean , median, variance and standard
deviation of the following data
Set A: 123, 258, 245, 145, 158, 167, 179, 129, 235, 199, 200,
