Using the website, Online Resources for Music Scholars

websites/resources listed to evaluate. Choose these based on your research topic, or just a
source that looks interesting to you. There are 469 websites listed, so hopefully everyone
will pick different ones. This is just a way for us to examine as many of these sources as
possible as a group. So, for example, I chose Chopins First Editions Online (CFEO), and
The Lost Voices Project. Your assignment is to provide citations in APA and Chicago
style, and write about a paragraph for each source evaluating it based on the criteria
presented in Baynes chapter 14, section 9. Remember, these are evaluations, not
annotations. Look at the source enough to decide if it is useful, who it is meant for, what
its about, etc., but there is no need to give a detailed analysis or summary like you would
if you were writing an annotation.

You can look up how to do the citations yourself, but a couple examples are below.

I do believe that I can trust this source. Some of the reasons include the .au in the URL.
Another reason for feeling that i can trust this source is that I had researched what the
Australian Music Centre was and what it was about. This entry was definitely written by
a specialist in the field. After researching the information in on the website I have come
to the conclusion that the information is solid and accurate. they also back up their
information with recordings that are dated and annotated.

The .gov in the URL gives me reason to trust this source. The purpose of this source is
to make historical sound recordings available to the public free of charge. Each recording
is dated, and lists the composer, genre, place of recording, instrumentation, and the
duration of the recording. This resource is easy to navigate and to use. The citation
information is accurately listed for each source therefore making it more reliable.
