TEAM ROLES
An Effective Tem is one which achieves the goal for which it has been formed, AND enables its
members to derive satisfaction from their association. For this to happen, it is necessary that
members of the team pay attention, among other things to the following two aspects
Achievement of the Goal and Performance of Tasks that will lead to desired results -Task
Orientation
Establishing , building, and sustaining Relationship among members of the team Maintenance
Orientation
Actions and Behaviours of team members that contribute to Task and/or Relationship is hence key
to a teams success
Raymond Meredith Belbin is a British researcher and management theorist best known for his work
on management teams. His research work led him to the conclusion that members of a team
choose to play certain Team Roles that contribute to Team Effectiveness, and that these roles
were distributed in a team
A team is not a bunch of people with job titles, but a congregation of individuals, each of whom
has a role which is understood by other members. Members of a team seek out certain roles and
they perform most effectively in the ones that are most natural to them Belbin
