Student Perceptions of Online Dating

The chapter presents results from a survey of 108 Humanities and Social Sciences students at Mandaluyong High School on their perceptions of using online dating sites. Key findings include: - 53% of respondents were female and 47% were male. The majority (66%) reported their religion as Catholic. - Respondents generally disagreed that online dating sites provide a good way for virtual socialization (67% disagreed) or ensure privacy and security (74% disagreed). - Responses were more mixed regarding online dating as a means of leisure, with 45% agreeing but 56% disagreeing it is a good use of leisure time.

CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS OF RESULTS

In this chapter the results of the data analysis are presented. The data

were collected and then processed in response to the problems posed in chapter

1 of this research. Two fundamental goals drove the collection of the data

and the subsequent data analysis. Those goals were to determine the most

favorable perception of the Humanities and Social Sciences student

respondents on using Online Dating Sites and to determine the

perceptions on using Online Dating Sites as a means of socialization of

Humanities and Social Sciences students in Mandaluyong High School on

the following dimensions: As a Virtual way of Socialization, For Privacy and

Security of Contacts and As a means of spending Leisure Time

These objectives were accomplished. The findings presented in this

chapter demonstrate the potential for merging theory and practice.

Part 1: Demographic Profile

In table 1, it shows the number of female respondents with a total of

57 that have (53%) while there are a total of 51 male respondents that

have (47%) that answered the self-administered survey questionnaire

made by the researchers. Furthermore it also shows the total population of

the respondents which is 108.

In regard to gender, females represented the larger number of

survey respondents at 53% (n = 57). Forty seven percent of survey

respondents were male (n = 51). Based on the figure, the dominated

gender among the respondents is female. it shows that there are mostly

female who have interest in participating in research studies.

In Table 2, It shows the number and the percentage of the

respondents religion. Based on the collated questionnaires, the most

numbered religion is Catholic with 66% followed by Iglesia Ni Cristo with

19% and Born Again with 12%. Lastly, the other religion gain 3%.

In Figure 2, It shows the percentage of the respondents religion.

Based on the collated questionnaires, Catholic have the most percentage

with 66% followed by Iglesia Ni Cristo with 19% and Born Again with 12%.

Lastly, the other religion gain 3%.

Part 2: Student Respondents Perception on Online Dating Sites as a


Means of Socialization

In Table 2.1, It shows the number of the gathered responses from

the respondents. Based on the collated questionnaires, the question

number that has the highest Disagree response is the question number 1.

On the other hand, the question number that has the highest Agree

response is the question number 2. Overall, the questions in the Virtual

Way of Socialization part in our questionnaire got more Disagree

responses.
