Structural Design Load Guidelines

The document provides design standards and considerations for structural design in the Philippines. It includes load combination equations, minimum live load values by occupancy type, wind zone maps showing basic wind speeds by province, and wind directionality factors for different structure types. Load combinations must be checked against equations provided in the national structural code. Live loads, wind speeds, and directionality factors are given in tables to inform preliminary structural design.

C. PRELIMINARY DESIGN

D. DESIGN STANDARD AND CONSIDERATIONS

The load combination equations using Strength or Load Factor Design where
provided on NSCP 2015 Section 203. The proponents must nake sure that the structure is
capable of supporting loads resulting from the load combinations shwon below from
NSCP Section 203-3.1 and Section 203.5.

1.2 DL + 1.6 LL + 0.5 WL Equation 203-3

1.2 DL + f1LL + 1.0 Em Equation 203-19

DL- Dead Load

LL- Live Load

WL- Wind Load

Em- Earthquake Load (the maximum effect of horizontal and vertical forces)

f1- 1.0 for floor in places of public assembly, for live loads in excess of 4.8 kPa, and for
garage live load, or 0.5 for other live loads
