CDs and DVDs are optical discs that store data through microscopic pits and lands that represent binary digits. CDs can be read-only, recordable allowing single-time writing, or rewritable allowing multiple writings. DVDs have similar attributes but higher storage capacity. Large organizations use RAID storage systems, NAS network attached storage, and SAN storage area networks for reliability, efficiency, and availability of data management and storage. Magnetic tape remains useful for long-term storage and backup due to its ability to store large amounts of data.

Tape library- individual tape cartridges are mounted in a separate
cabinet
