ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Fabio Saccomanno was born in Genoa, Italy in 1933. He received the Laurea
degree in electrical engineering at the University of Genoa in 1957. Professor
Saccomanno has acquired his vast experience in the field power systems through
a variety of sources. He began his career in industry as designer of control devices
and analyst of control problems. Then called by ENEL (the Italian government
agency for electrical power), he headed the System Analysis and Hybrid Com-
putation offices and was a research leader for several international projects in the
field of analysis and control of electric power systems. His original contributions
cover almost all the subjects included in the book.
Currently, Dr. Saccomanno is Full Professor of Automatic Controls in the Elec-
trical Engineering Department at the University of Genoa. His teaching activities
also include a second lecture of Automation of Power Systems. He has been
active on the international level (CIGRE, IFAC, IEEE, PSCC, PICA, etc.) as a
member of committees and working groups, chairman at congresses, and lecturer
and coordinator of advanced courses for technicians and researchers. His past
positions include Chairman of the IEEE North-Italy Section.

Stefano Massucco was born in Genoa, Italy in 1954. He received the Laurea
degree in electrical engineering at the University of Genoa in 1979. After eight
years at the Electric Research Center of the Italian Electricity Board (ENEL) and
at Ansaldo, he became Associate Professor at the University of Pavia and then
joined the Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Genoa, where
he is currently Full Professor of Power System Automation. His main research
interests are in the field of power systems design and control, power systems
analysis and simulation, and intelligent systems application to power systems.
Professor Massucco is a member of the IEEE PES-Power Engineering Society.

Prabha Kundur holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and has more than
30 years of experience in the electric power industry. He is currently President
and CEO of Powertech Labs Inc., the research and technology subsidiary of BC
Hydro. Prior to joining Powertech Labs in 1993, he worked at Ontario Hydro
for 25 years and was involved in the planning and design of power systems.
He has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto and the
University British Columbia. He is the author of the book Power System Stability
and Control (McGraw-Hill, 1994). He has chaired numerous IEEE and CIGRE
committees and working groups. He is the recipient of the 1997 IEEE Nikola
Tesla Award and the 1999 CIGRE Technical Committee Award.
