Classroom Management: Lining Up Students

The teacher had the students clean the room and get to their seats in 5 minutes. She then called out numbers for students to line up in order. When one girl wasn't following directions, the teacher complimented another student who was, which got the first girl back on task. Once lined up, the students sang a rap song. The teacher then ensured all students were quiet with hands at their sides before leaving the classroom.

Field notes: lining students up

CT- can I get your hands, hands, hands and eyes

Students- Oh hands, oh hands, oh hands and eyes

CT- I want the room cleaned and everyone in their seats in 5

when I call your number, I want you in line and ready to go

Students follow directions, and know what the teacher is expecting.

One girl was not following directions and my CT said: I like how (another girl) is following directions

It was interesting to see how complimenting another student doing the right thing, fixed the student
who was not on task.

CT- number 1,2,3 lineup

Once all students were lined up, they sang a fun rap song, but I was not able to write the lyrics down,
because I was up interacting at this point.

CT-Boys and girls I am not leaving this classroom until your hands are at your side and you are quiet
