Scenario Management for Intersection Simulations

This document describes a VISSIM scenario management example that contains three different intersection layouts: 1) an unsignalized intersection, 2) a signalized intersection, and 3) a roundabout. It demonstrates how to open and view scenarios using the project explorer. A COM script is also provided to automatically run multiple simulations for the different scenarios by default running scenarios 1, 2, and 3 twice each. The script can be edited to modify which scenarios are included and the number of runs for each scenario.

PTV VISSIM EXAMPLE DESCRIPTION

SCENARIO MANAGEMENT

INTERSECTION LAYOUT

Short description
Scenario Management example of three different intersection layouts including a COM
script to perform simulation runs of different scenarios.

Requirements
To make use of the COM script to run simulations runs of different scenarios, the PTV
Vissim Module COM Interface is required.

Objective
This example demonstrates a use case of scenario management. Within one scenario
management project, different intersection layouts are available in scenarios:
1. Unsignalized Intersection
2. Signalized Intersection
3. Roundabout

Example Steps
To open a scenario
1. go to View - Project Explorer
2. In the project explorer double click on the desired scenario
The default layout INTERSECTION [Link] shows a chart of delays for all
directions of the intersection. The delays are one way to compare the different intersection
layouts in terms of traffic flow performance.

Performing Multiple Simulation Runs of Scenarios

In order to perform simulation runs for various scenarios, a COM script is provided which
automatically runs simulations with the selected scenarios.

By default, the script loads the scenarios number 1, 2 and 3 and performs two simulation
runs for each scenario.
To edit the script you can use any text editor. In the script you may adapt:
the numbers of all the scenarios to be included in the simulation as well as
the number of simulation runs for each scenario.
