Step 1 Check chronometer time against GMT time

LMT 23:30 14th Chronometer - 03 28 29

Long (W) 03:55 + error - nil
GMT 03:25 15th

GMT - 03:28:29 15th

Step 2 - Calculate LHA of the star

GHA (03) 308 31.6 Dec = 45 58.4 N

Inc (28:29) 007 08.4 (no V correction as star)
GHA (obs) 315 40.0
SHA (+) 281 16.0
GHA* 596 56.0
Long (W) - 058 42.0
LHA* 538 14.0
- 360
LHA (obs) 178 14.0

Step 3 - Calculate C and true azimuth

A = Tan lat / Tan LHA = 58.97411585 N (as LHA between 90-270)

B = Tan Dec / Sin LHA = 33.55792921 N (always named after Dec)

C = A + B = 92.53204504 N

Tan Azimuth = 1 / C x Cos lat = N 1.3 W = 358.7

(named west as LHA between 0 180)

Step 4 calculate compass error

True brg = 358.7 True brg = 358.7

Variation = 37.0 (W) gyro = 000.0
Mag brg = 035.7 error = 1.3 H
Deviation = 1.7 (E)
Compass = 034.0
