Grade Six

BIANCA CAMILLE A. SAN PEDRO

Division of Pasay
Hi Kids! I am Flona, a Grade Six student. My teacher gave me
some task to study about the ecosystem. Come and join in my
fieldtrip.
In my fieldtrip, we will learn how to identify the different
kinds of relationship among organisms that live together.
Animals live with other animals in order to survive. All
organisms participate in relationships with organisms of different
species in ecosystem. Some relationships benefit the organisms and
are essential for both species to survive. Others are harmful to one
organism, but others are essential to the interdependence of
species within the ecosystem.
There are close relationship between two species that
benefits at least one of the specie thats what we called Symbiosis.
We will also learn to describe the different characteristics
of relationship among organism. Symbiosis is classified into
different types depending on the characteristic of relationships like
Mutualism, Predation, Commensalism, Parasitism and Competition.
These relationships affect the food chain. If a harmful kind of
relationship dominates in an ecosystem, it will cause a problem.
In this task, we will also learn how to classify the
relationships that exist among organisms.
There are activities that my teacher prepared that will help
us learn further about the relationship of different species.
Lets have fun and enjoy this trip!
ACTIVITY CARD 1:

Friends! Can you help me complete the Poke-A-Word

Go? Lets use the words written on my notepad.
Encircle the words that you can find.

SYMBIOSIS
PARASITISM
MUTUALISM
COMMENSALISM

What I think about

this activity:

Hooray! We were able to accomplish the first task.

Now, lets explore more!
ACTIVITY CARD 2:

OHH! Theres lot of jumbled boxes blocking the way. Can

you help me find out the words to identify the kinds of
relationship among organism? Lets just arrange the
jumbled letters!

Very Good! We already know about

What I think about this activity:
the different kinds of relationship
Easy
among organism. Lets move on to the Average
next destination. Difficult
ACTIVITY CARD 3:

Now,. Lets try to describe the characteristics of

different relationship among organisms. Put happy
face if the organism benefits, sad face if it is
harmed, and no reaction if unaffected.

MUTUALISM Clown Fish Sea Anemone

PARASITISM Tick Dog

PREDATION Spider Cricket

COMPETITION Lion Tiger

COMMENSALISM Oyster Mangrove

Wonderful! You were able to

What I think about accomplish this task. Its nice to
this activity: know that you already know the
Easy characteristics of different
Average relationship among organisms. Lets
Difficult move on.
ACTIVITY CARD 4:

Whooa! There are a lot of organisms in this

environment. Can you please help me classify the
pictures according to the relationship that exist among
them? We will just put the pictures to the right group.

MUTUALISM PREDATION
PARASITISM

COMMENSALISM COMPETITION

Awesome! We were able to

classify the animals according
to the relationship that exist What I think about this activity:
among them. Lets keep moving.. Easy

Difficult
ACTIVITY CARD 5:

Oohhhh! Lets try to classify again the

different organisms. We need to match the
species and lets try to identify what type of
relationship that exists. Just put a line to
connect the organisms and their relationship.

Sunflower Snake

Fern Lion

Chicken Tree

Bee
Flea

Tiger
Human

Wonderful! We are now ready for

What I think about this activity:

ASSESSMENT CARD 1:

Lets now try what we have learned from different

places that we had encountered. Read the following and
encircle the letter of the correct answer

1. It is a close relationship between two species

or more species.
a. Mutualism c. Symbiosis
b. Parasitism d. Commensalism
2. This is a relationship in which two species
both benefit.
a. Commensalism c. Mutualism
b. Competition d. Symbiosis
3. A symbiotic relationship in which one organism
lives in or on another organism and harms it in
some way.
a. Competition c. Parasitism
b. Commensalism d. Predation
4. A relationship in which an organism is eaten by
other organism.
a. Competition c. Parasitism
b. Commensalism d. Predation
5. It is a relationship where organisms compete
for a common goal.
a. Competition c. Parasitism
b. Commensalism d. Predation

Amazing! We already know how to identify the different

relationship among organisms. We are now ready for the
next stop!
ASSESSMENT CARD 2:

Friends! Lets try to identify what type of

relationship exists in the following pair of
organisms. Choose your answer inside the
placard.

1. Weeds and Pechay

2. Termites and flagellates
3. Snake and rat
4. Insect and Venus flytrap
5. Fishes in an aquarium
Mutualism 6. Mussel and shellfish
Predation 7. Tree and orchid
Commensalism 8. Remora and shark
Competition 9. Carabao and crow
[Link] and flea
Parasitism

Marvelous! You got it correct! You are now ready

for the next destnination!
ASSESSMENT CARD 3:

Match the following species to the different

type of relationship among organisms and to
their characteristics.

Fantastic! We were able to answer this task

easily. Lets move on to the final destination.
Before going back to
school, we have one more
destination.
ENRICHMENT CARD 1:

Guess the kind of relationship that exist among the

organisms.

I am a tapeworm. I live inside the

intestine of a pig. Whats our
relationship?________________

I am an eagle. I love to eat little

mice. Whats our relationship?
_____________________

I am a crocodile. I love to eat fresh meat. I

always compete with other crocodile. Whats
our relationship?____________________

I am an orchid. I am always attached

to different trees.. It doesnt matter
to them. Whats our
relationship?__________________

I am a kind of bird that land on zebras and

eat ticks and other parasites that live on
their skin. Whats our relationship?

ENRICHMENT CARD 2:

Friends! Lets answer this by giving the correct

relationship that exist among the organisms.

1. The shrimp is immune to the stinging

tentacles of the sea anemone and hides
near it to be protected from predators.
_______________
2. The tick burrows into the cows skin to
suck blood.
_______________
3. The legume has nitrogen fixing bacteria
on its roots.
