15. 808s and Heartbreak-Kanye West

This was Kanyes fourth studio album coming out in 2008, this album came after two very
crushing events happened in Wests life, including his mother dying and ending his relationship
with his fiance. The album carries a very clear essence of sadness through and through. While
often this album is criticized for its usage of autotune, I feel that the decision to not bring in other
singers and to allow Kanye to carry the emotions in this song is what truly gave the album the
power it has.

14. Please Please Me-The Beatles

Coming out ten days after my birthday in 1963. This album is perhaps the best Beatles albums
for me as it carries just that right feeling of happy upbeat love songs while also having the same
songs that I would listen to after my latest break up. The instrumentation on this album is at the
core of what a rock band should be using in the sense that it only uses the instruments youd
expect to be used on an album of this sort.

13. Synthetic Love-Trevor Something

I swear not all of the albums on this list have to do with romance and heartbreak, however Trevor
Somethings Synthetic Love had to end up on my list as it was Trevor Somethings first full
length LP and also tells a story of love and betrayal. The electronic sound on this album is
something straight out of the 80s which seems to be something Trevor constantly tries to hit
with these albums. The lyrics giving very raw depictions of exactly what our protagonist is
seeing throughout the album. From his late night drug frenzies, to his quick encounters with
women he quickly falls in love with.

12. To Anyone-2NE1
To Anyone is the 2010 debut album by Korean girl group 2NE1, I was immediately attracted to
the fast pace and aggressive tone that this album had, even if I couldnt understand most of it, the
sounds were pleasing enough and it may just be poppy feel good songs but these songs were and
still are bumping. Theyre 2nd Mini Album would be much more emotional but too short for me
to add to this list.

11. Not a Trampoline-Rob Cantor

Rob Cantor was a member of the band Tally Hall for a long while, this is his first solo album, the
songs range from very soft tunes to hard rock anthems, Rob Cantors lyricism shines here
extremely as each song carries some sort of theme and emotion. Sometimes the meaning may
not be very clear but theres always something there, none of these songs are empty. From the
very sentimental All I Need is You to the very caring Let Your Mother Know.
Favorite tracks: All I Need is You, Garden of Eden, Im Gonna Win, Flamingo, In Memoriam,
Let Your Mother Know

10. Common Struggles-Single File

This album came out while I was in 9th grade, and what a better time for an album about
struggling with relationships and just overall life. Originally finding this band from Zombie Ate
My Neighbors, I quickly found that this was much more than a comedy band. The band having
been together since 2003 had released four Eps and then this first studio album in 2009. Only
to break up the next year. Doesnt take away from the fac that this album is very well produced
and the lyrics are sort of what youd expect from a band of this caliber, while unfortunately well
never get another album from the band, at least will still have this one to enjoy.

9. System of a Down-System of a Down

Despite what System of a Down would later be known for, they started off the late 90s making
some of the hardest metal music. This album perfectly depicts the outrage and sadness that the
band feels over what they see as political injustice in our society. This was essentially a much
cleaner version of their 1995 demo tape, with hard hitting songs at fast paces, this album was
really good at hitting you in the face with their music, while also containing more peaceful songs
as well.

Favorite tracks: Suite Pee, DDevil, CUBErt, Sugar, Spiders

8. Marvins Marvelous Mechanical Museum-Tally Hall

Before Rob Cantors Not a Trampoline album, he made two albums with the band Tally Hall,
MMMM being released in 2005, is fleshed out versions of previously released demos by them.
The songs range from being very abstract pieces about who knows what, to very introspective
and personal songs about love and life in general. Particularly theres the song Greener all
about how the singer and this girl always have a reason why they cant be together, but still our
singer pursues the girl. Then more uplifting tracks like Be Born where our singer is talking to
his soon to be born child, then transitioning back into songs like Just Apathy where our singer
feels indifferent towards the damage he does to the people he loves.
Favorite tracks: The Bidding, Just Apathy, Greener, Good Day, Spring and a Storm, Ruler of
Everything

7. Always Was, Is, and Always Shall Be-GG Allin and The Jabbers

This album is everything early punk rock was, the album is extremely fast, loud, and cynical.
Depsite what GG Allin would become later on in his life, this album is definitely the crowning
achievement in his career, balancing out his anti everyone personality and hateful lyrics to be just
right, on songs like Bored to Death and Dont Talk to Me the essence of GGs consecending
behavior and strong hatred of people is clearly captured with just enough subtly, unlike his later
albums with other bands.

6. The Dream is Over-PUP

PUP is a Canadian punk rock band and The Dream is Over is their second studio album. The
Dream is Over carries songs that hold very personal to our lead singer, including songs about
break ups, and the lost of his pets, and his overall dislike for where he grew up. Songs like Pine
Point very clearly show his disdain for these places with all of the bad memories he associates
with it. DVP, My Life is Over and I Couldnt Be Happier are songs that really carry the album
with their incredibly aggressive sound and lyrics.

Favorite tracks: My Life is Over and I couldnt be happier, If This Tour Doesnt Kill You I will,
DVP, Sleep in the Heat, Pine Point

5. Hotel California-Eagles

Incredibly classic album and also the first album I owned on vinyl. Songs about love, feeling
trapped, replaced, and songs that are very deep. Most people know the title track off this album
and often cite it as the best track by the Eagles, however I have to disagree as I feel the song
The Last Resort is the best track on the album and out of the Eagles discography. The
instrumentation on this album is absolute genius, each track sounding different than the last and
even more so the album has an ever changing mood throughout it.

4. Antics-Vundabar

Vundabars lyrics on this album are definitely something worth noting, the very abstract and
indirect style they have that sort of breaks the way song structure works is something that truly
makes the studio album shine. The haunting vocals of the lead singer combined with the isolated
instrumentation is what makes this one of my top albums.

3. Vampire Weekend-Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend is an album that has some very uplifting lyrics, as well as some very dark
ones, but regardless of the lyrical matter, the instrumentation continues to uphold an upbeat
sound! Songs like M79 where our singer claims he knew that his girlfriend was going to leave
him anyways and he was just merely waiting for it to happen (little true to my life right there),
meanwhile on songs like Campus where the lyrics are left open to the listener, is he hoping
that he never sees the girl again? Or is he really wanting to see her again but she doesnt want to
see her?

Favorite tracks: Oxford Comma, Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, Walcott, M79, Campus, The Kids
Dont Stand a Chance

2. WORRY.-Jeff Rosenstock

Despite being an album all about worries for the future and troubling past events, WORRY.
Directly features a photography from Jeffs wedding as the album cover. This album has some
of the most genius lyrics and instrumentation you will hear out of any recently released album,
Jeffs entirely relatable lyrics about the future and past mistakes will bring back memories
youve completely forgotten about, the album switches back and forth between raging party
lyrics and gloom and doom similar to Jeffs previous solo album We Cool? the whole later half
of the album has each song segue into the next, simulating an endless track, or making you feel
as if youre at a live show of the album. The songs has a number of emotions throughout, songs
like Blast Damage Days and While Youre Alive carry this sentiment of appreciating your friends
as much as you can while theyre around, meanwhile other songs express the paranoid felt of
being replaced through songs like Wave Goodnight to Me and Bang on the Door.

1. Precious Art-Rozwell Kid

Following this albums release, it quickly became my favorite album, Rozwell Kid completely
outdoes their previous work with this album. Already hyped off of the singles they put out, I
quickly came to enjoy all of this album, Jordan Hudkins writing on this album is phenomenal,
the lyrics are entirely specific to Hudkins life but are so average it maintains itself as relatable to
the listener, While the instrumentation remains similar to some of their earlier works, each track
is different from the last, the album slowly transitions from these hard rock songs with joyful
lyrics to this very deep introspective, and much slower songs about friendship and growing up,
but they even include a joke song on the more serious side of the album with Wishman,
Precious Art is an absolute must listen!
