The numbers chosen are any consecutive series of 16 even numbers.

The numbers to be used are:

20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50

The sum of these numbers is 560. Divide by 4 and the magic number is 140. That
means that all columns, rows, and diagonals will add to 140.

The ten combinations are:

50 + 30 + 40 + 20 = 140 Note: The first combination started


50 + 24 + 44 + 22 = 140
50 + 28 + 36 + 26 = 140 with the largest number added to the
48 + 26 + 46 + 20 = 140 smallest number and the difference
48 + 30 + 38 + 24 = 140 supplied the two middle numbers.
46 + 40 + 32 + 22 = 140 Then the next largest number and
44 + 34 + 42 + 20 = 140
44 + 32 + 38 + 26 = 140 smallest number and so on. It is a
42 + 36 + 30 + 32 = 140 pattern and follows for any series of
40 + 38 + 34 + 28 = 140 16 numbers chosen for a 4 X 4 matrix.
