SPECIAL NOTES

* PEBBLES

These instruments play pebbles at the beginning and end of

the work. The players take two flat pebbles, which have been
moistened (and ideally the left hand is wet too). One pebble
is held flat in the palm of the left hand, the other is held
lightly in the right. The pebble in the right hand is
fluttered on the surface of the other. The left hand moves
from a deep cup (marked +) to a flat palm (marked o).

Fs, A, B) with the exception of one string which should be tuned to an Fn: ?

WATER GONG

A small handheld, well-pitched gong lowered into a tub of water after being hit. The notation indicates an
approximate depth of submergence in the water, with the top sta line indicating the gong is out of the water, and
the bottom sta line indicating almost complete submergence.
