1. Geographical background of the USA

 The USA is a federal republic consisting of 50 states and a federal disrict. It has the largest economy in the
world. Its citizens enjoy one of the largest incomes in the world. Among the largest and most famous
American cities, are considered New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Francisco .
The capital of the USA is Washington, DC, situated on the Potomac river. It is a beautiful city with broad
avenues lined with trees. Most Government buildings are in the same area as the Capitol and the White
House. The Capitol is the place where Congress meets. The White House is the home of the US president. The
city of Washington has many monuments. Three of them honour the memory of very great presidents: the
Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial.
Another important fact about the USA is the flag that carries thirteen red and white stripes which represent the
first thirteen colonies. The stars in the blue field represent the number of states at present.
July 4,1776 became the birthday of the American nation and is called Independence
Day. George Washington who led the Americans in the war became the first President.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland consists of four parts: England, Scotland,
Wales and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is the 9th largest island in the world;
England is the largest part. It is famous for its sheep and wool. The countryside is remarkable. There
are lots of old houses in towns and villages. The Lake District is the most beautiful part of England. The symbol
of England is the red rose.
Scotland is the land of mountains and lakes. The most famous lake is Loch Ness.
Everybody hopes to see the Loch Ness monster there. The most interesting part of Scotland and of the whole
Britain is the region called the Highlands. The symbol of Scotland is the thistle.
Wales is the land of song and poetry. It is well-known for its musical festivals. Wales is rich in coal mines
and full of medieval ruined castles. The symbol of Wales is the yellow daffodil.
Ireland is the land of stories. Storytelling is a part of the Irish tradition. The national symbol
of Ireland is the shamrock. The national flag of the UK is called the Union Jack.

Moldova is a small and very beautiful country. It looks like a bunch of grapes on the map of Europe and
many people call it a horn of plenty.
You know, Moldova is famous for its forests ,the Codrii. They are beautiful, especially in autumn.
One can travel to enjoy Moldovas picturesque places, or just have a rest from the town noise near a river or a
lake, in the forest, in the hills, or in a valley; studying different kinds of trees, flowers, plants, animals and birds.
Old Orhei is one of the most important historical sites of the Republic. Here there are traces of the Geto-
Dacian settlements and ruins of a medieval Moldovan town from the 16th century.
The heart of our country is Chishinau, its capital. This white and splendid city is situated on seven hills.
The people of Moldova are very special, too. The best way to get to know and understand the people is to meet
them in their own homes. The people of Moldova are hospitable, generous and lively. Guests are always
welcome to their houses.

4. What places of UK would you like to visit?

Each of us dreams to make a journey around the world and find out different interesting things.
If I had a chance to go to the UK ,I think I would fist visit London .I would gladly walk through Trafalgar
Square, then have a look at Buckingham Palace to see if the queen is in the castle at that time, this means that
the state flag should be raised on the Palace. I hope also to see Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, to visit the
historical London museum.
Undoubtly, London is an amazing city but the UK has so many different beautiful and exciting cities , for
instance, Edinburgh. This is the second most visited city outside of London and it is truly defined by its
beautifully preserved historic buildings, strong and rich culture, food and people.
The majestic Edinburgh Castle and Arthurs Seat (an extinct volcano) look down on a beautiful city that has
one of the best shopping streets and a wealth of historic buildings.
I hope ,I would admire some of the beautiful spots of this interesting country.

 The flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is known as the Union Flag or Union
Jack. It is blue and it is made up of three crosses.
The upright red is the cross of St. George, the patron saint of England.
The white diagonal cross (with the arms going into the corners) is the cross of St. Andrew, the patron saint of
Scotland.
The red diagonal cross is the cross of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.
St. David is the patron saint of Wales. The design and colours (especially the Blue Ensign) have been the
basis for a number of other flags including other Commonwealth countries and their constituent states or
provinces, as well as British overseas territories.

Britain is rich in its historic places which link the present with the past.

One of the most impressive and iconic attractions, and one of the most important London landmarks, is the
Tower of London .This historic fortress is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city as it documents
over eight centuries worth of London history from the royal family, to notorious prisoners and politicians.

Just in front of the Tower of London is the Tower Bridge. It is one of Londons most iconic landmarks and
has sat astride the River Thames since 1894. This Victorian bascule steam-powered bridge was a feat of
industrial engineering in its time.

Besides, we can name here and the Stonehenge , a prehistoric monument a located in Wiltshire,
England. Stonehenge is the remains of a ring of standing stones set within earthworks. It is in the middle of the
most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial
mounds. Note: (= mound of earth and stones raised over a grave or graves -(movile funerare)

things that you might do there if you visited one of them.

From sea to shining sea, the United States is home to a diverse landscape both culturally and physically.
The most attractive places remains to be: Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Canyon in Arizona, Alaska,
New York City , Washington D.C. New Orleans and many other awesome spots.
If I were in the USA I Would visit the Grand Canyon . I might experience some of the most inspiring views
America has to offer. So simply, I would enjoy the view . One of the best ways to see the canyon is on a hiking
tour that would take me to the bottom. Moreover, I would choose to hike the Bright Angel Trail or raft the Colorado
River.
This is the place for backwoods camping and hardcore hiking.

retain?

Each country is proud of its citizens and its own traditions.

In Moldova, many traditions are centuries old. It is hard to believe that the multi-ethnic character of the
country still exists within the popular traditions. Whats more it has enriched them with new qualities, giving
them a new colour and transforming them into an original bunch of customs, rituals, and folklore present in
Moldovan villages. In spite of the differences of nationalities, the people here have the most important quality
Hospitality. In Moldova every guest is received with a special warmth.
The most important holidays for our people are christmas, New Year, Independence day and , the Easter
religions holiday. For this celebration people prepare in good time, they cook special food: Easter Cake and
painted eggs and the best wine. In the course of time the painted eggs have become a handicraft art.
We cannot speak about Moldova without mentioning the traditions of a family nature: weddings,
celebrations, etc., which become real shows performed by guests and hosts.

Scotland is a part of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and that's almost all we know
about it. But there are several things that are usually associated with the Scottish culture. Those are kilt, bagpipe,
tartan and of course Scotch whisky.
The kilt is a knee-length garment with pleats (pliuri) at the rear, originating in the traditional dress of men and
boys in the Scottish Highlands of the 16th century. Since the 19th century it has become associated with the
wider culture of Scotland in general, or with Celtic heritage even more broadly. It is most often made of woolen
cloth in a tartan pattern. (=model of Scottish soldier)
Although the kilt is most often worn on formal occasions and at Highland games and sports events, it has also
been adapted as an item of fashionable informal male clothing in recent years, returning to its roots as an
everyday garment.

10. What do you thing are the ways for every people or nation to keep a strong consciousness of their
ethnic distinctness?

A country has it`s specific traditions, culture, personalities. That is what distinguishes a nation from another. I
think uniqueness is in our very nature.
I believe there are plenty of ways to conserve our ethnic consciousness. Firstly, we should never give up our old
traditions, never forget our ancestors.
Then, there is our culture. If too many foreign influences are permitted to cross the borders into our minds, the
culture we have would only be a mixed amount of information and trends. So, we should keep our eyes and
minds open to what is new, but still protect our authentic selves.
Thus, we should still keep old habbits of our predecessors and try to conserve our culture, but that depends on
every person.
We should cherish our uniqueness and be proud of it.
