The appearance of methods is based on very different news of what language and
how language is learned. A method is a plan for presenting the language material to be
learned and should be based upon a selected approach. To make and use a method, we
have to know what kind of language that will be learned by our students because there are
many kinds of language in the world and what is the best way that must be used
according to the students need.
There are three different theoretical views of language and the nature of language
proficiency explicitly. First is the structural view. This is the most traditional that is
viewed as a system of structurally related elements for coding of meaning. The target of
language learning is seen to be mastery of elements of this system. Second view of
language is functional view. This is viewed as a tool for expression of functional
meaning. And the last is interactional view. It sees language as a vehicle for realization of
interpersonal relation and for the performance of social transactions between individuals.
Language is seen as a tool for the creation and maintenance of social relations.
Learning is a formal study of language rules and is a conscious process. Learning
is available only as a monitor that repository of conscious grammatical knowledge about
that is learned through formal instruction and that is called upon in the editing of
utterances produced through the acquired system.
From the factors above, there often appear to be natural affinities between certain
theories of language and theories of language learning. The linking of a linguistic theory
to a learning theory produced a method. The teacher may develop their own teaching
procedures, informed by a particular view of a language and a particular theory of
learning. They may revise, vary, and modify teaching learning procedures on the basis of
the performance of the learners and their reactions to instructional practice.

Changes in language teaching methods throughout history have reflected
recognition of changes in the kind of proficiency learners need, such as a move toward
oral proficiency rather than reading comprehension as the goal of language study, they
have also reflected changes in theorist of the nature of language and of language learning.

Communicative language teaching (CLT) involves communicate competence of
students because it makes use of real-life situations that necessitate communication. The
teacher sets up a situation that students are likely to encounter in real life. The
communicative approach can leave students in suspense as to the outcome of a class
exercise, which will vary according to their reactions and responses. The real-life
simulations change from day to day, so students' motivation to learn comes from their
desire to communicate in meaningful ways about meaningful topics.
Example:
"Instructions to students." Listen to a conversation somewhere in a public place and be
prepared to answer, in the target language, some general questions about what was said.
