Personal Statement
1. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed
and demonstrated that talent over time?
Playing baseball without a doubt can be considered my greatest skill. I fell in love with
baseball at the age of 3. After 12 years of playing the sport, I am still in love with it as much as I
was when I first started. In fact, I fall in love with it more and more everyday I play. Over the
stretch of my entire high school career, I have played at all three levels of baseball, Freshman,
Junior Varsity, and Varsity. Every level that I played at prepared me for the next. Now at the
highest level, I know what it takes to be able to participate in such a competitive program. I have
gained knowledge, grown in maturity, and gotten stronger every year. And because of this, I am
able to hit the ball farther, throw harder, and run quicker the more will and effort I put into my
off-season. I demonstrated my talent by making it into one of the best baseball programs in the
valley, not too many people have or can do that.

2. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have
taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic
achievement?
One of the most significant challenges I faced growing up was my parents divorce. As a
child, I the thought of my parents splitting up never crossed my mind once. Although this was
perhaps the greatest obstacle I had ever come to face, I went on to finish the year with getting the
Principals Honorary Award for only the second time in my life (the first time in first grade). And
unlike other children who had to face the divorce of their parents, I was still one of the top
students in the class, if not one of the top in the entire school. However, now that I am in high
school, the divorce has taken a different toll on me. Constantly switching from both of my
parents houses, a lot of my materials for school usually get separated leaving me with an
obstacle most other students do not have to face. The harder school becomes, the higher the
obstacles that were once not a problem become.
3. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have
positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes or contributed to group efforts
over time.
Leadership is one of my best skills that has improved every year I practice it. Most of my
leadership is shown off in school, particularly group projects. As an A and B student my entire
life, I know what it takes to turn in high quality work and get a good grade. Group assignments
make me subconsciously take control of the the leadership role for the people in my group,
assigning who does what job according to my general sense is of how the persons work ethic
and determination is. After it is all said and done, I always reexamine each students work to

assure myself the groups work will get at the very least a B. Even when group members are
assigned by the teacher and I do not get the most hard working students, I usually manage to
convince them to do their work, and at the end of it all we always manage to get a satisfying
grade.
4. What is the one thing that you think sets you apart from other candidates
applying to the college or a job?
One major thing that sets me apart from the other applicants is the fact that I have never
met another person who is like me. I am a very trustworthy person who people can talk to and at
the same time, a very outgoing person. I love to make friends laugh and have a good time. What
makes me so trustworthy is my ability to change my attitude and mindset to the appropriate
manner. I love attention because it gives me the chance to make not only my friends, but also to
other strangers who may be watching, a good laugh. My intentions are always honorable, as I
never look for trouble because I believe peace should be everlasting. My friends and family
consider me as a mind full of wisdom. I always have an open ear and honest advice to give.
People usually come to me when looking for empathy and sagacious opinions. All in all, what
makes me so unique is my ability to change my personality to the correct manner, whether it be
serious or playful; I can be the philosophical genius with wise words or I can be the life of the
party, whatever is appropriate for the time and place.
