Annotated Bibliography APA

Working title :

Does abortion have a due date?

Research Question:

Should abortion be limited after 12 weeks?

Working thesis:

In society today, there is a thin line between what individuals perceive as right and what

is wrong. Abortion is a controversial topic that debates the concept of human life versus womens

rights. There are so many levels this debate can go into, however, there is one in particular that

fits both of these topics of discussion. Is a 12 week limit on when an abortion can be executed

appropriate? Or is it still stealing the individual liberties women have of making their own

decisions?

Introduction:

Lawmakers have analyzed the differences between individual rights and what can be

portrayed as justifiable murder when it comes to abortion. This type of mentality usually is in

contact with ones morals and religious views. Those that are pro-life claim that by letting the act

of abortion continue, we are approving murder under the idea that taking ones life is okay under

certain circumstances. They believe its murder and consider the being that is growing in the

individual rather than the actual carrier. Those that are Pro-choice argue that it is in the womens

rights to decide whether or not they want to keep the being from growing in them or not.

Feminists could also argue that this halt of the right to make this decision can be taken

all the way back to the creation of the 19th amendment. This amendment is what gave women

their right to vote and gain equality in society. Laura Flanders, in her article, Abortion, The

Usable Past, went into depth explaining the relevance taking away a womans right to decide

abortion is in regards to this amendment. By tarnishing this right, they are diminishing all the

work women went through to get the ability to live with non-sexist equal rights.

In an article called, women's Rights on the Right: The History and Stakes of Modern

Pro-life Feminism, Mary Ziegler went into depth of explaining the side of feminists who are

pro-life supporters. She goes into explaining the idea that these supporters believe they are

helping the womans well being by taking away her ability to decide whether or not she wants an

abortion. This idea is very contradictory in itself.

So what now? Yes, there are an abundance of opinions that could sway your mind of

choosing what you favor. But what is the end game? How do we cease this war? Well, there have

been strategies created to implement limits as to when the practice can be done . The idea that

there should be a 12 week limit for abortion tries to settle the feud on both ends. But does it

really?

Taking away a womans right to decide if her abortion rights is equivalent to taking away the

19th amendment.

This article talks about how taking away a womans right to decide whether or not she wants an

abortion is the same thing as taking away her rights as a woman. The 19th amendment is what

women fought for in regards to equality, so if the government takes womens rights away in

regards to her terminating a pregnancy, it is basically going against everything they stood for.
