The suppressing issue of ISIS is being dealt with in Iraq, and as forces begin pushing the

terrorist organization out of the country, the situation is making progress but far from being

finished. ISIS goal is to create a caliphate which is an area under Muslim influence. The current

leader who is still in power of this organization is Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi and according to an

article from The Week he has been in power since 2003. He controlled much of Iraq and Syrias

western territory, but has been on the defense recently in Iraq as Kathleen Caulderwoods article

for VICE News reports and describes that the organizations last stronghold within this country

which was held in Mosul is being cleared out by Iraqi forces as well as U.S. support. They have

also discovered potent hallucinogenic drugs on the captives, revealing that ISIS troops use them

as a stimulant on the battlefield. The news article by Caulderwood states, there were originally

750,000 civilians living in Mosul, however that number has been drastically reduced and many

have fled in droves to refugee camps. A CNN Library article describes Al-Qaeda being Muslim

military group that was prominent in the early 2000s in which ISIS was formed as a joint branch

of this group. The term ISIS derives directly from the fact that there is a strong sense of the

terrorist organizations influence in Iraq and Syria. ISIL is also a former title this group went by

meaning the Islamic State of Syria and the Levant, the Levant is an area located in the Eastern

Mediterranean. Trumps travel ban has gotten a lot of attention. The U.S. is going to great lengths

to protect its borders in the best way it sees fit, however according to CNN religious editor

Daniel Burke, this travel ban targeting specific predominantly Muslim countries may be fuel to

the fire for the recruitment of new ISIS and other Jihadist members. This article also mentions

that on a worldwide level, this order only affects 7 predominantly Muslim nations leaving 40

other countries consisting of Muslim influence who have not been impacted, however this

alienates and impacts these nations as well. This is a strong foundation for Al-Qaeda and ISIS

recruiters to build off of because of the ability to target young individuals that feel threatened by

this order.
