I. INTRODUCTION
On-the-Job Training is the oldest form of training. Prior to the advent of off-site
training classrooms, the only practical way of learning a job was working alongside an
experienced worker in a particular trade or professionas evinced by the practice
of apprenticeship during the Middle Ages when master craftsmen passed on skills and
knowledge to novices who worked alongside them.
On-the-Job Training, also known as OJT, is a training that teaches the skills,
knowledge, and competencies that are needed to perform a specific job within the
workplace and work environment. It uses the regular or existing workplace tools,
machines, documents, equipment, knowledge and skills necessary for a trainee to learn
to effectively perform his or her job.
The On-the-Job Training will be experienced within the normal working
environment. It may occur as the trainee performs actual work or it may occur
elsewhere within the workplace using training rooms, training work stations, or training
equipment. As what has been mentioned in the first paragraph, On-the-Job Training is
most frequently conducted by an employee who can competently perform the job that
he or she is teaching.
For the students, On-the-Job Training is the best opportunity to go through the
actual methodologies of a specific job using the real tools, equipment and documents.
In this training, student trainees acquire both general skills that they can transfer from
one job to another and specific skills that are unique to a particular job. These skills
include verbal and written instruction, demonstration and observation, and hands-on
practice and imitation.
With this kind of training, student trainees are given the chance to experience the
real industry, an experience in which each of them will be moulded into a more
competent individual.

III. TRAINING DETAILS
i. Personal
Being a student trainee for almost 4 months in PSPC, the
experience helped me discover and develop more of my skills and
personality. Some of which are:
Having good communication/relationship towards co-
trainees, employees and supervisors
Accepting tasks with full enthusiasm and interest
Importance of Safety
Priority setting
Stepping up to the challenges
Having initiative to do task
ii. Interpersonal
Working in an office full of engineers allowed me to see what they
do and how they do it. With this, I have learned different attitudes such
as:
Openness to different personalities and opinions
Respecting ones peers
Remaining calm amidst peer pressure
The engineers that I have worked with never fail to remind me to
love every piece of work that I am doing. They say that once I lose the
love for my job, I lose my path to success. And now, Im living with that
advice.
iii. Technical
Project Controls Department gave me a lot of opportunities to
exercise and practice my skill in my field of work. They taught me how a
Construction Company works by delivering projects to the clients in
time. From the manpower to the engineered modules, Project Controls
Department taught me everything on how to be a productive engineer in
their company.
They assigned me to manage the shipped packages that will be
used to assemble the module. They entrusted me to create a master list
of all the shipped packages and tag all the productivities happening
each day. They were certain that I am skilled enough to deliver all of
these reports to our clients. I became very efficient in Microsoft Excel as
I do all the tasks entrusted to me in this period.
I also learned to use Oracle a website specially designed for the
Company. I was taught to issue move orders for the needs of
employees and the items in the office. I was assigned to organize the
payables in controlling the cost of the Department.
For more than 3 months of being in the AG&P, I was exposed to
tons of engineering drawings that made me familiarize in the structural
drawings for Fabrication, Erection, Weldmap and also in Piping. With
the help of my supervisor and other employees, I have learned things I
never knew I would.
iv. Program Specific
Atlantic Gulf & Pacific Co. of Manila Inc. or AG&P helped me attain
my objectives in my On-the-Job Training. The Company exposed me to
different preparations and tasks in coordination with the other
employees to help the company in delivering the modules to the client
in time. First, the Company conducted a 1-day orientation for Safety to
make us familiarized with the Safety Rules that the Company exercises.
Second, my supervisor and the other employees trained me to be a part
of their team and taught me things that must be regularly done for the
project. I was trained to create or do the Master Lists, Tagging List,
Move Orders, Man-Hour Checking, Productivity Tracking, Document
Transmittals, Revising Document Transmittals, Finding for the Missing
Beams, Organizing Payables, Issuing Personal Protective Equipment,
Submitting Reports to Clients, Organizing Engineering Drawings, and
Revising Engineering Drawings.
The company conducts toolbox meeting regularly and the
department allows us to join the meeting while they brainstorm over the
safety precautions that will improve the safety in the workspace.
Moreover, the Manager, Supervisors and all the other employees
trained me to be a responsible and determined engineer in the future
that wont give up easily in the challenges of life.
IV. TRAINING ASSESSMENT IN RELATION TO PROGRAM OUTCOMES
As an On-the-Job Trainee in Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, Tabangao
Refinery, Planning Department, I was introduced in multiple learning that built the
foundation of my knowledge in the field of engineering. It developed my skills not only
technically, but also interpersonally and intrapersonally. Although I admit that most of my
works are far from my field of engineering, I admire the perseverance of my supervisor
and other employees to reach out to me and make sure that I am learning.
Most importantly, Atlantic Gulf and the Pacific Company of Manila Inc. have
taught me that dreams do not become reality through magic; It takes sweat,
determination and hard work.
