ABOUTRACE FOR A CURE
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Series is the world's
largest and most successful education and fundraising event for
breast cancer ever [Link] series of 5K runs and fitness
walksraises significant funds and awareness for the breast
cancer movement, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and
honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Since it
started in 1983, the Komen Race for the Cure Series has grown
from one Race with 800 people in Dallas to a global series of
more than 150 Races with nearly 1 million people participating on
four [Link] Komen Race Series welcomes people of all
ages and fitness levels, from walkers to elite runners.

Race for the Cure will hold a race in Northeast Arkansas next year.
jane McDaniel told the Jonesboro City Council on Tuesday that Jonesboro will host the race on May 6, 2017.
The race, which also takes place in Little Rock, gives residents in Northeast Arkansas who cannot travel to Little
Rock a chance to [Link] to the Arkansas Susan G. Komen website, Race for the Cure gives an
opportunity to honor breast cancer survivors and those who have died.
75% of the money raised remain in Arkansas to fund educational programs while 25% goes to fund national
research grants related to treatment and cure of breast cancer.

JONESBORO Breast cancer survivors, volunteers, and community leaders gathered at the Municipal Center in Jonesboro Tuesday to
announce details of the inaugural Komen Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure.
The race is scheduled for Saturday, May 6, on the campus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
Candace Cooper, 2017 Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure chair, says the goal is to raise $200,000 this year through the various Race for
the Cure events. This years race theme, More Than Pink, is a movement dedicated to shifting our focus from awareness to action in an
effort to redefine our pink ribbon in a way that unites and empowers us so that, together, we can end breast cancer.
The Komen Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure is developing under the supervision of the Arkansas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen, whose
race in Little Rock is the second largest race in the Komen series.

Northeast Arkansas Susan G. Komen Race for the [Link] leaders and volunteers spoke at the City Council Chambers in Downtown
Jonesboro to reveal the events planned and speak on the importance of the race. Matt Propst, board president for the Arkansas Komen
affiliate, said they cant wait for [Link] going to be something thats life changing, I think,Propst said it didnt take much to see the
importance of bringing a race to Northeast [Link] knew there was so much interest and it meant a lot to the community, the cause
and what we are trying to do, Propst said. We also knew that everything we have to do, as far as our studies and our grants about the state
and our service area, is that there is a tremendous need for the services that we ultimately help [Link] Cooper, 2017 Northeast
Arkansas Race for the Cure chair, said more than 2,000 people from NEA register and attend the Race for the Cure in Little Rock each
[Link] said bringing the race closer to home will allow more friends and family to show their support for the fight against breast cancer.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Comes to Jonesboro
City is hosting the event for the first time
A booth was set up at Arkansas State's Health Expo to support the upcoming race
JONESBORO, Ark. (April 27, 2017) Residents of Jonesboro and the surrounding areas can now participate local
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
Jonesboro will be hosting their first North East Arkansas Race for the Cure on May 6. It will begin on the A
State University campus, at Centennial Bank Stadium.
Other events will be available before the race, including sponsor booths, survivor breakfast, presentations, a
parade. Participants can register or pick up their packet starting at 6:30 a.m. The race begins at 9 a.m.
As of April 23, the North East Arkansas Race for the Cure has raised over $42,000 of their $50,000 goal.
Nancy G. Brinker, sister of Susan G. Komen and the founder of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is very thank
everyone who has donated their time and effort to the foundation.

THE
IMPORTANCE
Its all about the fight against breast cancer. The statistics are staggering. One in eight
women will battle breast cancer during her lifetime. In Northeast Arkansas alone
approximately 6,000 people are diagnosed each year and 1000 die. But that means about
5,000 survivors. A lot of those survivors, along with their friends and family, will show up to
this race as well as a lot of people who walk in memory of their loved ones.

But, when you participate and fundraise for the Race, we fight these statistics together. In
1980, the 5-year relative survival rate for women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer
(cancer confined to the breast) was about 74 percent. Today, that number is 99 percent! Komen
has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer - transforming
how the world talks about and treats this disease and helping to turn millions of breast cancer
patients into breast cancer survivors. This progress was made with your continued support and
together we can reach our vision of a world without breast cancer.
