Learning objective(s):

i. sound out the phoneme /h/ correctly; and
ii. read and match words beginning with /h/ correctly
Time: 30/60 minutes
Teaching aids: picture cards, word card and song chart.

Set Induction:
a. Show a picture card and get pupils to say the word. (Appendix 1)
Step 1:
a. Show the word card and get pupils to repeat (Appendix 2)
b. Pupils sound out the phoneme /h/ followed by the word.
Step 2:
a. Organise the pupils into two groups. Number the groups as 1 and 2.
b. Distribute word cards and picture cards (5 of each) to each group.
c. Explain and demonstrate how the activity is carried out. Contextual
Group 1 shows a picture.(APPENDIX 3) Learning
Group 2 looks for the matching word (APPENDIX 2).
Pupils sound out the phoneme/h/ followed by the word.
Step 3:
a. Put up the song chart on the board. (APPENDIX 4) Consolidation:
