Vocabulary:

1. Phrase: typically four measures long and there are two different uses of the word phrase in music: the first has to do
with the structure of music and is used as a noun, and the second has to do with the expression in music and is used as a
verb.
2. Dynamics: how loud or quiet the music is
3. Con Moto: with movement.

Lesson 2
1. Slur: a symbol in Western musical notation indicating that the notes it embraces are to be played without separation, i.e.
with legato articulation.
2. Staccato: a form of musical articulation. In modern notation it signifies a note of shortened duration, separated from the
note that may follow by silence
