EsriNCGMP Online Geologic Mapping Template
The esriNCGMP Online Geologic Mapping Template is a GIS-based cartographic solution that
serves as the foundation for publishing key features of traditional surficial and bedrock geologic
map to ArcGIS Server, to eventually be registered on [Link] or compiled as a web
mapping application.
esriNCGMP Online Geologic Mapping Template brings together the cartography and relevant data
structures of the FGDC Digital Cartographic Standard for Geologic Map Symbolization, the Esri
Geologic Mapping Template geodatabase schema and the NCGMPschema.
The Geologic Map of the Mount Baker Quadrangle, registered to [Link], is a live example of
a map produced with the template. Digital data for the Geologic Map of the Mount Baker 30 x
60 Quadrangle was appended to a copy of the [Link].
The template geodatabase ([Link]) can be found in the Template folder, along with the
corresponding .mxd, in the EsriNcgmp Online Geologic Mapping Template. The Example folder
contains a copy of the template folder contents, with data.
The FGDC Digital Cartographic Standard for Geologic Map Symbolization provides a single
national standard for the digital cartographic representation of geologic map features. The Esri
Geologic Mapping Template originated from an informal agreement between the USGS and Esri
to develop and ArcGIS implementation of the FGDC Digital Cartographic Standard for Geologic
Map Symbolization. The NCGMPdata model is the current proposed standard format for geologic
map publications funded by the U.S. Geological Survey's National Cooperative Geologic Mapping
Program. The database is designed for encoding content analogous to that contained in a
traditional geologic map published by the USGS and by state geological surveys.
