The Performance Diagnosis Matrix shows that improvement should be made at
the organizational and process levels. The problem is not related to the team and
individual level because the JMU staff works to support students and resolves problems
when need be. Although there is motivation to expand Carrier in the future, we do not
find that there is motivation to meet the current demands of the student population.
There are plans for JMU to expand in around five years, but there does not seem to be
motivation to meet current students needs. JMU is becoming more well known, so it
seems that JMU is anticipating an even higher increase; for now, it is necessary to meet
demands of paying college students. The capacity at the process level is insufficient
because the quantity of tables is not met, but the quality is (the tables are good quality,
they have a lot of books, etc.). Lastly, there is a problem with expertise at the process
level because the population increase at JMU has not been addressed in a productive
way. The population has increased from 19,722 in 2011 to 21,270 in Fall 2016. Perhaps
these statistics may not seem that drastic, but when students use mainly Carrier or
ECL, the impact is felt.
