THE LION KING
Activity:
Introduction:
In The Lion King, Simba must discover who he is before he can take his place in the
Circle of Life. The full life cycle from birth to death (The Circle of Life, as it is sung
in The Lion King movie) is the backdrop for focusing on the life passage from
childhood to early adolescence that the children must navigate, and also to look
ahead into a time of life that unavoidably will include frustrations, confusions,
mistakes, and troubles, as well as delights and growth.
Title of Activity:
Who Are You? (Circle of Life)
Objectives:
To reflect on and value their childhood experiences and fascinations
To appreciate their families and people around them
To foster enthusiasm in each student so that they will look forward to coming
to class every week.
Procedures:
1) Students sing Circle of Life song with the teacher guidance. A video of the
song is showed to let the students know the meaning of the song.
2) Teacher explains the meaning of Circle of Life as stated in The Lion King
story.
3) The students are asked to think Who Am I and the journey of their lives and
imagine what changes they might see for themselves in the future.
4) Students are asked to make the chain of circle by the teacher guidance.
5) Students are asked to draw about their lives based on the question given in
the chain of circle. Examples: Family, friends, school, what makes you happy?
and ambition.
6) The drawings of each student are presented in front of the class.
Justification of the choice:
Why I choose Who Are You (Circle of Life) activity?
For The Lion King Activity, I had made some differences by doing the activity
regarding the Circle of Life which is discussed about each students life
including their family, friends and their relationship with society. I want them to
appreciate every second of their lives and the people around them especially
their parents, siblings, friends and teachers. I will ask the students to draw
about their lives. This is good as the children love to draw very much and
colouring the pictures too.
Why I choose drawing activity?
To do this activity, I just used the circle cards that I will asked them to do by
themselves to ensure that they have the skills to make some cards in different
shapes. I think all the materials that I used are suitable for the children such
as the masks, the story book and the lion doll. I am sure that the children will
enjoy my drawing activity. As we all know, the children love to draw and they
love to colour the pictures that they had drawn. So, to ensure that they will be
not bored in the class, I had chosen the drawing activity because it will make
the children to imagine what they are going to draw. Imagination will help the
students to learn better and it also will develop the creativity among the
children.
THE LITTLE GREEN FROG (POEM)

introducing some of the action words to the children.

Variation 2
1) Help the students to make the bubbles for each action word (see picture
below)
2) Play the game as before, but in silence; show the bubbles instead of saying
the words and the children do the action.
Justification of the choice:
Why I choose the action song activity?
For the poem activity, I had chosen the action song activity and the Frog
Says game. These activities are really interesting and I am sure the children
will be enjoying doing this kind of activity. For example, the children are really
loved to sing the nursery rhymes with the actions so by doing this action song,
I will make the children feel really enjoyed to learn English in the classroom. I
want to ensure that the children think positive in learning English, for example,
they will found that English is a very fun subject to learn with many activities
that can be done in the class. Besides that, by doing the action song activity, it
will help to develop the motor skills of the children besides it is a great way to
incorporate music in your childs life.
Regarding the materials used, I had made the frog finger puppet to attract
childrens attention while singing the nursery rhymes and to expose the Art
learning to them in the class. Art is a very good way to teach the children as
the children like to play with the things that they can touch and they do it by
themselves.
Why I choose to play the Frog Says game?
The same goes to the game activity where the children love to play any kind
of game very much. I want them to be active in the class by doing the game
activity so that they will not be the passive learners. Besides that, I want to
teach them the new vocabulary while playing this game by introducing them to
the action words. Why I ask them to do the action words by themselves? It is
because I want them to remember the words easily as the children tend to
remember the things that they had done by themselves. The winner for this
game will be rewarded.
Why I give rewards to the children?
Giving the reward to the children can make them do something with their
heart and with the passion. Reward here acts as the positive reinforcement to
the children so, they will put a lot of effort in doing my activity in order to get
themselves be rewarded by the teacher.
