The CD included with this book contains five practice exams- one for each of the following MCITP

certification exams covered in this book:


Exam 70-640 Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring
Exam 70-642 Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring
Exam 70-643 Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure, Configuring
Exam 70-680 Windows 7, Configuring

The CD includes software, CertEngine that helps you in the preparation of MCITP certification exam. The
software is easy to install on any Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or
Windows Server 2008 computer. You must install the CertEngine along with its database to access the
CertEngine feature. The installation process of the CertEngine and its database is given in the succeeding
sections.

SoftwareRequirements
To install the CD software Windows XP or higher is required on your computer. Minimum 8 MB of hard
disk space is required to install the CertEngine. You must have the .NET Framework installed on your
computer. If the .NET Framework is not installed, the CertEngine setup file first installs the framework and
then installs the CertEngine.

Your system resolution must be 1024 x 768 to run the CertEngine.

ExploringCertEngine
CertEngine is professional software developed to help the test takers to get certifications with ease. The
CertEngine software creates an environment that is similar to the real-test environment and this helps the
user in gaining confidence and comfort level to clear the test. In addition, it enables the user to find out the
concepts (objectives) in which he/she is required to work hard as well as the concepts in which he/she
already prepared well. Users can also view their progress reports for each test by using the CertEngine
software.
This user guide is intended to help the perspective users of the CertEngine software so that they can explore
each and every function of this software to analyze their preparation for the certification exam and also give
their hundred percent in the main exam.
CertEngine is divided into two parts; first part consists of the user interface and second part consists of the
database. You learn to use CertEngine under following sections:

InstallingtheCertEngineSoftware
The installation of CertEngine is a two-step process. Firstly, you have to install the main application that
consists of the user interface and all the required functionality to access questions from the database and
display them to the user one-by-one; accept answers from the user and then evaluates those answers; and
display the score card.

InstallingCertEngine
The installation of CertEngine required procedural steps, which are as follows:
1. Double-click the [Link] or [Link] file available on CD-Rom, the welcome page of the
CertEngine wizard appears, as shown in Figure CE1:

2. Click the Next button, shown in Figure CE1, to display the license agreement of the CertEngine
software.
3. Select the I Agree radio button of the License Agreement page of the CertEngine wizard, as shown in
Figure CE2:

4. Click the Next button of the License Agreement page (Figure CE2), Select Installation Folder page
appears asking you to select the installation folder, as shown in Figure CE3:

5. Select the location where you want to install the CertEngine software and click the Next button (Figure
CE3).
6. Select Everyone radio button to allow access of CertEngine for anyone who uses this computer.

If you are using the Windows Vista operating system then you should not install CertEngine in the Program
Files folder as this may cause some security problems and the CertEngine software may not be installed.

After specifying the location, you need to confirm the installation of CertEngine.
7. Click the Next button on the Confirm Installation page of the CertEngine wizard, as shown in Figure
CE4:

The next page of the CertEngine wizard displays the process of installing CertEngine on your computer, as
shown in Figure CE5:

After installing CertEngine on your computer, the CertEngine wizard displays information that CertEngine
is installed successfully, as shown in Figure CE6:

8. Click the Close button to close the CertEngine wizard (Figure CE6).
After installing the CertEngine software, you are also required to install the database of CertEngine, only
then you would be able to use CertEngine. In case, you run CertEngine without installing the database, an
error message is displayed, as shown in Figure CE7:

InstallingDatabase
After installing the CertEngine software, lets learn to install the database for the same. The installation of
CertEngine database required procedural steps, which are as follows:
1. Double-click the MCITP Exam [Link] or [Link] file, available on the CD-Rom and the welcome
page of the MCITP Exam Data wizard appears, as shown in Figure CE8:

2. Click the Next button (Figure CE8) to display the Confirm Installation page of the MCITP Exam Data
wizard, as shown in Figure CE9:

3. Click the Next button on the Confirm Installation page (Figure CE9) to start the installation, as shown
in Figure CE10:

After installing MCITP exam data on your computer, the MCITP Exam Data wizard displays information
that MCITP exam data is installed successfully, as shown in Figure CE11:

4. Click the Close button to close the MCITP Exam Data wizard (Figure CE11).
After Installing MCITP exam data, you are able to use the CertEngine software and start taking the test to
evaluate your preparation for clearing the certification exam.

UsingCertEngine
After installing the CertEngine software, you can use it and take the test. In CertEngine, you can either
attempt the full test or the custom test as per your convenience and requirement. Moreover, CertEngine also
allows you to view objectives of each certification exam and keeps track of your performance in the form of
a test history. The usage of the CertEngine software is clearly explained in the following topics:

GettingStarted
After CertEngine is installed, you can start your preparation for the test. You can open CertEngine by
clicking Start All Programs CertEngineCertEngine, as shown in Figure CE12:

Alternatively, you can double-click the shortcut of CertEngine created on your desktop. The main form of
CertEngine is shown in Figure CE13:

The main form of CertEngine provides you the options to take test and view exam objectives and the marks
scored in the tests already taken.

TakingtheCompleteTest
The tests displayed on the main form contain the actual number of questions that you have to answer in the
main exam. The time allotted for the complete test is also equal to the time in which you have to take the
main exam. For example, if the certification exam, named MCTS-70-680, require you to answer 45 questions
within 90 minutes, then CertEngine would also display 45 questions and the time limit would be 90 minutes
only.
Perform the following steps to take the complete test:
1. Click the Start button displayed in front of the exam name (in our case, we have selected MCTS-70-640)
to take the complete test of that particular exam, as shown in Figure CE14:

As soon as you click the start button, the Profile dialog box appears, as shown in Figure CE15:

2. Enter your name in the respective text box (in our case, it is Puneet) on the Profile dialog box (Figure
CE15).
3. Click the Continue button on the Profile dialog box (Figure CE15) that redirects you on the Select Exam
Mode form, as shown in Figure CE16:

The Select Exam Mode form allows you to take the test and displays the number of questions in the test and
test duration.
4. Select either of the following two modes to take the test:
TEST MODE: Does not allow you to evaluate your answer along with the explanation while taking
the test. The correct answer of each question is displayed only at the end of the test. If you select

TEST MODE as an exam mode and click the Start Exam button (Figure CE16), the questions
appear, as shown in Figure CE17:

As soon as the test starts, each question is displayed one-by-one. For this, you have to navigate through
each question by clicking the First, Previous, Next and Last buttons. You can also select the Bookmark
option at the top-left corner; so that you can keep track of the questions you find hard or wish to
answer later.
LEARN MODE: Allows you to view answers of the questions at the time of taking the test along
with the detailed explanations. If you select LEARN MODE as your exam mode, you can click the
Learn button to view answers and detailed explanations of current question, as shown in Figure
CE18:

5. Click the Review Exam button (Figure CE18) to review your exam.
In review mode, each question is displayed along with your answer and you can also view whether the
question is bookmarked or not, as shown in Figure CE19:

In Figure CE19, you can see that each question is displayed as hyperlink and when you click the hyperlink
you are redirected to that particular question.
6. Click the End Test button to view your score, along with each question, your answer as well as correct
answer, as shown in Figure CE20:

The score also creates the objective report that displays number of question and your score in each objective.
7. Select the Objective Report tab (Figure CE20) to display the objective report, as shown in Figure CE21:

After displaying the score card, your test details get saved in the database that you can view by clicking the
Test History button (Figure CE13) on the main page of CertEngine. Now, from the Score Card form, you can
either move back to main page by clicking the Back to Main Page button at the bottom left corner or close
CertEngine by clicking the Exit Application button at the bottom right corner.

TakingCustomtest
The custom test option allows you to specify the number of questions that you want to answer in the test.
However, the specified number of questions should be less than or equal to the number of questions
available in the database for a particular test. You can also select time as per your convenience in the custom
test; however, it cannot be more than 360 minutes (6 hours).
Perform the following steps to take a custom test:
1. Click the Attempt a Custom Test button (Figure CE13) displayed on the main form of CertEngine to
take custom test and you are redirected to the Attempt Custom Test form, as shown in Figure CE22:

2. Select the test you want to take from Select the Test drop-down list; and the Questions to attempt, Time
Allotted, Passing Score, and Total Score get displayed (Figure CE22).

You can edit the number of questions to attempt and also the allotted time. However, passing score and
total score get changed automatically. For example, you selected the exam MCTS-70-680, questions to
attempt are 10 and time allotted 60 minutes, then you can observe that passing score and total score are
automatically changed to 136 and 181, respectively as shown in Figure CE23:

3. Click the Start Custom Test button, and you are redirected to the Select Exam Mode form as in case of
taking complete test.
4. Select the exam mode (test mode or learn mode) and start your test.
The details of the custom test are also saved in the database allowing you to view your performance later.

ViewingExamObjectives
Each and every certification exam evaluates your knowledge under various objectives or parameters. If you
are able to understand each parameter, then only you get certified otherwise not. Considering this factor,
the CertEngine software allows you to view objectives of each exam, so that you have the knowledge about
the topics of each exam that helps you prepare and perform well in your exam. You can view exam
objectives of each exam by clicking the Exam Objectives button on the main page of CertEngine.
As soon as you click the Exam Objectives button on the main page, you are redirected to the View Exam
Objectives form. Then you can select the exam form the drop-down list and its related objectives get
displayed, as shown in Figure CE24:

After viewing objectives, click the Back to Main Page button to move back to the main page of CertEngine.

ReviewingtheTestHistory
After taking tests of various certification exams multiple times, you might feel to review your performance
so that you can analyze your preparation for the main exam. This need can be fulfilled by viewing the test
history that contains details about each test you have taken so far. The test history can be viewed by clicking
the Test History button on the main page of CertEngine.
As soon as you click the Test History button on the main page, the View Test History page is displayed, as
shown in Figure CE25:

The View Test History form also allows you to delete details of any of the tests taken yet. However, the
deleted test history cannot be recovered later.

UninstallingCertEngineSoftware
Now, you learned to use CertEngine software and hopefully you succeeded in your main exam. After this,
you might need to remove CertEngine from your system to free up the disk space occupied by CertEngine.
Uninstalling CertEngine is a two-way process, which is described under the following heads:

UninstallingDatabase
At the time of uninstalling CertEngine, first you have to uninstall the database from your computer. Until
you uninstall the database, you would not be able to uninstall CertEngine from your computer. You can
uninstall the database in the Control Panel of your Windows operation system.
1. Select StartControl Panel from the Start menu to open Control Panel.
2. Click the Uninstall a program link in the Programs group as shown in Figure CE26:

As soon as you click the Uninstall a program link in the Programs group, the list of installed programs on
your computer is displayed, as shown in Figure CE27:

3. Select MCITP Exam Data from the list and click the Uninstall button displayed at the top of the list
(Figure CE27).
After this, follow the instructions displayed and CertEngine database get removed from your computer.

UninstallingCertEngine
CertEngine can only be uninstalled from your system if you have uninstalled the CertEngine database
completely from your system. You cannot uninstall the CertEngine software from the Control Panel as you
have done in case of the CertEngine database. For this, you have to run the [Link] file that gets

copied on your system while installing CertEngine. You can select StartCertEngineEngine Uninstall
from the Start menu to execute the [Link] file that checks whether CertEngine is installed on
your system or not. If the CertEngine database is installed on your computer, it displays you a message to
uninstall the database first, as shown in Figure CE28:

In case, the database is already uninstalled from your computer, a message to confirm your action is
displayed, as shown in Figure CE29:

Now, click the Yes button to continue the process of uninstalling CertEngine from your system. After a
while (depending upon the processing speed of your system), the CertEngine software gets removed from
your system.
