Tensile Capacity Analysis of GMS Angle

This document summarizes the calculations to check the tensile and shear capacity of a 10mm thick galvanized mild steel angle connection to a U-channel. It finds that the maximum tensile stress of 8 MPa is less than 275 MPa, and the maximum shear stress of 0 MPa is less than 275/√3 MPa, confirming that the connection is adequate. The document was prepared by Kam Kee Steel's Works for job number 31/3/2017.

Design of 10mm Thk. GMS Angle
Ref. Calculations

Check tensile capacity of 10mm GMS angle connection to U-channel:

Use 10mm Thk. GMS Angle,

Max. tensile stress of 10 mm GMS Plate (y-y direction due to Vertical load.)

fqy = Fy / loading area Where Fy = 9.6 kN (6x1.6) (Live Load=6kN)

Tensile Stress fqy = (9.6 x 1000) /(120 x 10) = 8.000 N/mm2 < 275 N/mm2 O.K.

Max. shear stress of M12 10 mm GMS Plate (x-x direction due to Horizontal load.)

fqx = Fx / loading area Where Fx = 0 kN (Taken by main frame)

Shear Stress fqx = (0 x 1000) /(120 x 10) = 0 N/mm2 < 275 /3 N/mm2 O.K.
