A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English

Strategy: Tableau 1
Grade 8

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. identify the meaning of unfamiliar words in the story through the use of
crossword puzzle;
b. demonstrate various scenes from the text by performing a tableau;
c. understand the story by answering comprehension questions;
d. construct a sequel of the story making comics strips; and
e. Write a letter to the character of the story on the fulfilment of ones dream.

III. Activity Sequence

A. Pre-Reading
1. Motivation
a. Post some pictures of people who became successful in life.

b. Ask the students the questions:


What do these people have in common?

Possible answer: they pursue their dreams and goals which made
them successful.

c. Let the students share their dreams in life.


d. Introduce the activity entitled Cook Your Dreams.

Strategy: Tableau 2
COOK YOUR DREAMS

What is your dream? To be a traveller.

Ingredients:

1 cup of Courage

3 tbsp. of money

2 pinch curiosity

5 kg of love

e. On a piece of paper, the students are going to write the ingredients


which they think they need in order to achieve their dream.
f. Ask the students to post their work on the board and pick three
persons to share their output.
g. The teacher gives reaction on the output presented.
2. Vocabulary Activity

a. Divide the class into five groups.


b. Give each group an envelope that contains puzzle pieces which the
students will figure out in order to guess the word which the
meaning is found at the back.
c. After the students have formed the puzzle, they should match the
word into its appropriate sentence posted on the board using
context clues.

B. During Reading

1. The reading text is pre- assigned.


2. Post a picture on the board. Ask this question to the students:
Do you believe that a picture paints a thousand words?
What does the picture try to say?
What could be the meaning behind this picture?

3. Allow the pupils to give as many interpretations as they can.


4. Introduce the activity (making a tableau) to the students.
5. Define what a tableau is for the students to clearly understand.

TABLEAU- is a group of models or motionless figures representing


a scene from a story or from history.

6. Divide the class into three groups.


7. Give each group a scene in the story that they will perform
through the use of tableau.
8. The rest of the class will guess what scene is being depicted.
