The American Revolution was a time of great change in the late 18th century. The colonists in America grew unhappy with British rule and taxation policies, which led to protests and eventually the Revolutionary War for independence. After several years of fighting, the colonists were able to defeat the British military and gain independence for the new United States of America in 1783.
