ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT

Victorian Public Service (VPS) Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme (GRADS) graduates are
outstanding, motivated graduates who want to contribute to Victorias future.

A graduate position in the VPS GRADS will provide opportunities to:

undertake twelve months of intensive learning and development;

undertake three placements, usually across three different areas of the Victorian Public Service;

an ongoing career with the Victorian Public Service; and

a Victorian Public Service-wide professional network.

The Victorian Public Service comprises seven departments and a number of agencies. Many departments
and some agencies participate in the VPS GRADS. For more details please visit

WORK CONTEXT

Graduate officers are employed by the department or agency with whom the ongoing position resides.
Each graduate officer commences with this employing department or agency and undertakes the first four
months of the Scheme in that role. Two further four-month placements are then provided for each
graduate, usually in other departments or agencies of the Victorian Public Service, providing each
graduate with the opportunity to experience a breadth of employment opportunities and issues facing the
Victorian Public Service. On completion of the three four-month placements of the Scheme, each
graduate returns to their employing department.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key accountabilities during the development year generally include:

contribute to projects as a member of a team and conduct projects of defined scope under
direction

undertake research and analysis

prepare clear and concise briefings, correspondence and reports

maintain accurate records, databases and record management systems

initiate improvements to procedures

use theoretical knowledge to achieve agreed outcomes
