Abstract
In this modern era, Malaysia has experienced the dramatic changes in
economic. With corresponding to the growth of economy and development of our
country, the amount of food waste also increases. In few years ago, the most
common and simplest way to manage the food waste is collecting it and buried in
the landfills. However, now, food waste issue is being discussed in many countries
including Malaysia. All of us are thinking of the effective solutions to overcome
this serious problem and trying to convert the wasted food into value-added
products. So, in our project, we do the literature research on sustainability, Food
Waste Reuse Concept (FWRC) and benchmark the current food waste generation
habits, minimization effort and food waste management with other countries.
Besides that, we also carried out the audit of food waste generated by a typical
UTM student, Malaysian family and the vicinity of UTM to see clearly the data of
food waste. Finally, we come up with an innovative solution which is practical in
terms of cost and ease to use, that is convert food waste into succinic acid.
