SSB Transmitter Basics and Modulation

An SSB transmitter with a 3.85MHz carrier modulated by a 1.5KHz sine wave produces sidebands at 3.8485MHz and 3.8515MHz. If the modulation index m is greater than 1, the carrier frequency shifts. Frequency conversion is the process of translating a signal to a higher or lower frequency for processing. The circuit used to produce modulation is called a modulator. The output power of an SSB transmitter is usually expressed in terms of peak envelope power.
