This source is about the psychological theories surrounding the fear of public speaking. It places

importance on feeling exposed in public, feeling helpless in front of others. This source was very

helpful to see some of the psychological causes of the fear of public speaking. This will help

with my project by helping to deter the feeling of being helpless or exposed and I will put a huge

emphasis on being prepared before speaking.

2. Elliot, Bob, and Kevin Carroll. Make Your Point: Speak Clearly and Concisely

2016.

This book is a step by step on how to give an effective speech, with tips on how to improve your

speaking and message. It also provides examples of what not to do during a speech, both

stylistically and content related. This source is credible, and one of the best sources I have. Its

very detailed and from credible public speakers that collaborated on the book. This will help me

with what to dos and what not to dos as well as the signature diamond content block, that will

help to structure speeches.

3. Gross, Kathy. Personal Interview. Interview not conducted yet.


Ms. Kathy Gross is a public speaking teacher at Loyola High School in Detroit. She also coaches

policy and public forum debate at her school. Shes very credible and experienced, teaching and

coaching for several years. The interview has not been conducted yet, so Im not sure how it will

specifically benefit me.

This article is an explanation of why most people are afraid of public speaking and how to curtail

it. The main focus is on the inner caveman within all of us that creates anxiety. The feeling of

standing out or being singled out within a crowd. This source is very reliable, the author has

done many articles on speaking and has a bachelor's in English. This will help me focus on

helping to ease speech anxiety and practicing by yourself before just trying to get over the

anxiety as youre speaking.

5. Laskowski, Lenny. "6 Elements of an Effective Presentations." 6 Elements of an

This source is a step by step on things you can do to give an effective speech. It focuses mostly

on techniques you can use while speaking rather than preparation. The source is very credible,

its from an author who gives public speaking seminars and hes a member of the National

Speakers Association. This will help me provide tips on things to ease anxiety while speaking

rather than just before. Many people feel prepared before speaking but panic while doing it, so

this will be particularly helpful to teaching.

This source focuses on the importance of public speaking, how it will affect your career, and why

it is necessary. The source is credible, its from a large newspaper and this branch specifically

focuses on college. This will help me with advertising the class and emphasizing the importance

of public speaking during your educational career as well as actual career.

This journal article depicts what skills are helpful during a speech and how to use your specific

talents to aid you during your speech. This source is very credible as it was peer reviewed and

worked on by multiple authors with [Link]. This is one of my better sources as well. It will help

me make an individualized plan with people who want to learn how to be better public speakers.

8. Smith, Jacquelyn. "How to Give a Great Speech." Forbes. Forbes Magazine, 13

Aug. 2013. Web. 28 Sept. 2016.

This article gives tips on how to give a great speech, how to prepare, what resources to use, and

the most effective tactics to give a speech. Published in Forbes, this article and author is very

credible, the author having a background in public speaking. This will help me create a study

sheet for what to do before, during, and after a speech to be most effective with the least amount

of anxiety.
