Geomembrane Chemical Ratings Overview

GCL is an alternative to HDPE geomembrane for applications requiring a hydraulic barrier with low permeability. GCL consists of a layer of sodium bentonite clay bonded to a layer of geotextile and can serve as a liner, cover, or barrier when hydrated. While GCL has a lower permeability than HDPE geomembrane when hydrated, HDPE geomembrane may be preferable for applications requiring greater chemical resistance or strength.
