Electric Drive -Lab experiments
1) Determination of parameters of DC machine.
a) To find out armature and field resistance.
b) To find out armature and field impedance and inductance.
c) To find out the EMF constant.
d) To find out the moment of inertia of machine using retardation test.
2) Determination of parameters of three phase induction machine.
a) No load and block rotor test to find out the parameters of squirrel cage induction
motor and draw the equivalent circuit diagram. Also, measure the stator resistance.
b) To find out the moment of inertia of machine using retardation test.
Cycle 1
1) Braking of DC motor.
a) Dynamic Braking: To measure the time for braking from steady state to rest for
different values of rheostatic resistance.
b) Plugging: To measure the time for braking from steady state to rest for different
values of input voltages.
2) Braking of AC motor.
a) Plugging: To measure the time for braking from steady state to rest for different
values of input voltages.
b) Diode Braking: To measure the time for braking from steady state to rest for different
values of input voltages.
c) Capacitive Braking: To measure the time for braking from steady state to rest for two
different values of capacitor banks.
Record speed and current in each case.
3) Study of starting transient of three phase induction motor for DOL, star-delta and
autotransformer starting. Record voltage and current in each case.
4) Study of chopper control of DC machine.
5) DC machine control using thyristor chopper.
Cycle 2
1) V/f control of induction machine.
a) Study the V/f circuit for experimental setup.
b) Using the whole setup, obtain different speeds and measure the current and voltage
waveform in each case.
c) At different no load speed, using belt-pulley arrangement, take reading and plot
speed-frequency characteristics.
2) Simulation of speed control of DC machine with single loop (only speed loop) and
double loop (both speed and current loop).
3) Simulation of closed-loop speed control of three phase induction machine using V/f
control.
4) Simulation of vector control of induction machine.
5) Simulation of closed-loop speed control of single phase induction machine.
