Importance of Electromagnetic Theory

The document discusses the importance of the subject Electromagnetic Theory (EMT) at C V Raman College of Engineering. EMT deals with electricity, magnetism, electric fields, magnetic fields and electromagnetic waves. It provides an understanding of phenomena in three dimensions through a field theory approach. This approach is essential for comprehending topics like waveguides, space waves, antennas, and particle interactions. EMT also gives insight into the operation and characteristics of basic circuit elements like resistors, inductors, and capacitors.

C V RAMAN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

SUBJECT NAME- ELECTROMAGNETIC THEORY (EMT)

IMPORTANCE OF THE SUBJECT

Though we haven't gone so deep in subject now but have some primary idea about the subject
from our earlier physiscs course.
Electricity and magnetism in three dimensions is understood through electromagnetic theory.
Even simple circuit theory is founded on electromagnetic principles.
Electromagnetic Theory deals with electricity, magnetism, electric fields, magnetic fields and
electromagnetic waves. While in circuit theory the emphasis is given on the voltage (V) at a
pair of terminals and the current (I) through the conductor, but in electromagnetic theory the
emphasis is given on the space between conductors and the electric and magnetic field.
This Field theory approach of electromagnetics, is therefore, essential for understanding
waveguides, waves in space, antennas, and particle field interactions. Electromagnetic Field
also give insight of operation and characteristic of such basic elements such as R, L , C.
